Kirilenko had seven points, while Ostertag added two fadeaway jumpers to give the Jazz a 31-17 lead. Orlando rallied by forcing eight turnovers in the final nine minutes of the quarter. Shammond Williams made a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left to cap a 23-8 run, including the final nine points of the period, as the Magic took a 40-39 lead into the break.
