The Orlando Magic have agreed to trade power forward Drew Gooden, Steven Hunter and the rights to second-round draft pick Anderson Varejao of Brazil to the Cleveland Cavaliers for center/forward Tony Battie . Hunter, a free agent, had to be signed to a new contract before the deal becomes official later today. Battie, 6-11, 240, averaged 5.6 points and 4.9 rebounds last season, playing in both Boston and Cleveland. Gooden averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds last season, hif first full year in Orlando. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/bask...ports-headlines
Orlando seems to be getting the short end of the stick here, why didnt they ask for jeff mcinnis or something...Cleveland just filled Boozer's hole he left
I heard they didn't wanna part for Battie straight up for Gooden... or the contracts wouldn't match up or something.
Bad trade. Before the cavs werent willing to give up battie now they give only him up in the dal. Is this official I hope not and they pull out. Damn I like battie and all but we are giving up to much for him.
I really don't like this trade. We are giving way too much here for this guy. The J-Rich trade would've been a way better way for the Magic. We would've gotten what we gave but in this deal we get ripped in a way. I don't like this deal at all.
We aren't really giving up Steven Hunter... We wouldn't have had him... I don't think we were gonna play Anderson Varajeo either... Gooden would've played backup to Dwight... I liked Gooden though because he was insurance if Dwight didn't pan out... Oh well, Battie fills our biggest need quite nicely... I guess the trade isn't that bad after all.
The Magic weren't going to resign Steven Hunter anyway. Anderson Varejao wasn't going to be used either. So really, more or less, on the Magic's end it was a straight up Gooden for Battie trade. I am happy to finally have some players that can play in the middle.
Tony Battie is an aging forward with bad knees. How could they trade a potentiol double-double guy for him? I'm sure other teams would've offered better for Gooden.
Dumb deal. Battie won't play. Gooden will dominate. Varejo is a Gooden clone. So basically we give up 2 Gooden's for Battie. I hate this deal. Why couldn't we have at least dealt Declerq in it. Please let this be a false rumor, please. This is kinda like the Matt Harpring for Andrew Declerq trade, except way worse. Cleveland's GM just has a way of screwing us over.
Although I feel that we did in fact rip you off. Battie is a very solid defender down low. If he's healthy he will definatly help you guys. But yea.....he's not worth Gooden plus the other guys......
Wow the Magic really screwed themselves over with this one. Drew Gooden has a great future, the way I see it they should've kept him and locked him up for the future in case they were ever in a position where they needed him. This move will come back to bite the Magic several times over. I guarantee that.
The rumor now has us getting a couple of draft picks: The rumor is now that the picks will be a protected 1st rounder between 06-08 and a 2nd rounder the year after the 1st rounder. That would be a little better even thoough we still get raped in this deal. I'm not sure if I would deal Hunter and Varejo for Battie straight up. Throw in Gooden, WTF?
Man what a great trade for Cleveland, as long as those draft picks aren't too high it's not a big loss, and they get Gooden an athletic PF who can run the floor, rebound, and is a more versatile scorer than Boozer was, what a great way to fill the loss. As a Gooden fan I'm happy, he'll finally get to start As for the Magic, y'all got screwed.
With Lebron and Gooden, you guys will be playoff contenders for many years to come, so I don't see the picks being high.
Man, we got raped in this deal. Battie is older and injury prone, not good. We gave up THREE guys for him, is he worth that? Hell no. However it appears we want to surround Dwight Howard with experienced verterans, which isn't too bad. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Needing to replace Carlos Boozer, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Drew Gooden in a four-player trade with Orlando on Friday, sending the Magic forward Tony Battie and two second-round draft picks. </div> http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n...1529EDT0329.DTL Theres got to be more to this deal, and until I see the full stories on ESPN, I'm not saying anything else.
That was it. We got 2 2nds, ZERO 1sts. Man we definetely got raped. Cleveland's GM has a way of raping us. 1st the Declerq/Harpring deal and now this. I wonder how John's butt hurts. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some bomb threats or anything of that nature. EDIT: We traded one of the 2nds to Memphis for cash considerations.
