First of all Magic is my all time favorite playa...........Second of all I believe MJ is the greatest to ball in the NBA. HOWEVER, if you gave Magic and Mj four other players of equal ability, I say Magic would win 6 out of 10 times!!!! Holla back Terps and Lakers till I die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It comes down statistical match up wise to one on one and MJ is the one of the few players who is better than Magic. Jordan would win that game. I am really stunned at how you thing Magic could win when you say MJ is the greatest ever.
Magic had the ability to elevate the play of those around him. I think players would rather play with Magic moreso than with MJ. Magic;s first instinct was to pass and had an otherwordly ability to see the play develop before everyone else. Mike had the physical skillz no doubt. It (IMO) comes to down to more than a stat matchup you have to factor in the intangibles. Let's not forget Magic was a heck of a scorer too. Magic is the best team guy (on the floor) ever. It's take a special kinda cat to play with Mike. He was hard to play with. again my opinion. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting dexter:</div><div class="quote_post">You already answered your question, If both of them have 4 equal players the best player will come out on top most likely. You are absolutely right is comes down to more than stats and I was hoping you brought that up. Magic did have a pass first thinking and that was what he had to as a point guard. Jordan however looked for his shot more than Magic. Jordan also had great court awareness, like Magic. All great players can see a play develop before it happens. That comes with chemistry and playing with your teammates long enough. They know what is going to happen before it does. Jordan in my opinion had the best intangibles ever. That is what made him the best. It wasnt that he could fly like a bird or jump out of the gym. It was the fact that whenever he steped on the court he was the smartest player. I dont think it would be as hard to play with Jordan as you think. Jordan like Magic, makes the players around him better. I think that players would love to play with the best. So I think they would love to play with Mike.
LOL,,,I'll leave the credibility comment alone..... The one thing Magic had over MJ is passing ability both in a set and in transition. Anyway, it's a hard argument to make.... I'll always give Magic the edge.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">Lets remember who ousted who in Finals for someones first of 6 titles.</div> Let's remember who didn't have James Worthy and Byron Scott. Let's also take into consideration the age of the Laker players. Magic was aging, while MJ and Pip were coming into their primes.
MJ is the best player EVER EVER EVER EVER. Just ask u self a question who had more rings and who did people respect more MJ or Magic?
Who did people respect more? How does that prove who is the better player? I'm pretty sure a player like Avery Johnson is one of the most respected players in the league, probably moreso than Ron Artest, does that make him the better player? Also Jordan didn't have to go through the Celtics and 76ers in the 80s to win his championships year in and year out.
I think magic would win, just because he is a playmaker and makes the players around him better, MJ does that, but not to the same extent
Look at the teams that MJ beat to win titles sunsfan, that argument is lame. The Bulls played some awesome teams.
The Knicks compare to the Pistons slightly, and would have probably won a title had they not faced MJ or Olajuwon. That Sun team was one of the most exciting teams to watch ever, and would have won the title if not for MJ. That Jazz team was very solid, as they did make it back to back years and did play the Bulls very well, may have won back to back titles if not for the Bulls. The Sonic team had a very nice D, was probably the weakest of teams that the Bulls played. The Lakers were still good, even with the injuries (it was Pip's D on Magic that changed that series) The Blazer team was phat, had a solid D and an outstanding O, would have crushed any other Eastern team easily. The Bulls also put out a very tough Magic team as well, that helped Shaq make his move to the West. Yes none of these teams were the great Celts, Lakers, or Pistons, but the Bulls had no cake walk, for them to play at that high level for that long was amazing. They could have slipped up at any time and let one of these more than capable teams win it, but they stayed perfect every time. Can't count MJ's comeback year, was very rusty.
I never said it was a cakewalk, but it was considerably easier than what the Lakers had to go through. They didn't just play the one and two man teams like the Bulls did. They played some of the most complete and well rounded teams ever. Why do you think the 80s are considered the NBA's glory years? It's because that was the time where the competition was at it's highest point in league history and it still hasn't been matched. Also what's with saying the Jazz would've won back to back titles if not for the Bulls? Duh. And if not for the Lakers the Celtics would have won a total of about 5-6 titles in the 80s and the 76ers would have another title under their belt.
has anyone thought of the possibility of Jordan and Johnson on the same team at the same ages? But that's another thread...
Question, am I not the only one who is sick of these "who is better than who" threads? Kinda reminds me of some other board...I won't go there.
i wouldn't be tired of these posts...as long as every argument is well-backed up... first, you yourself admitted that MJ is the greatest ever...so that statement itself will make MJ the winner of the match up... IF they are going to guard one another, there's no way Magic can stop MJ... MJ will attract double teams...and im sure everyone agrees that he knows what to do when he's double teamed... you're saying that Magic will make his teammates look better by passing first...i don't think there'll be chemistry enough for him to make these passes consistently...coz we're talking about 4 other players who's equally talented as the other 4...so i dont think Magic will have his Lakers in this matchup... MJ has a wider array of shots...and a defense to boot...he'll shut down Magic IMHO...
