<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Milwaukee Bucks continued to aggressively reshape their roster Wednesday by beating out several teams to acquire New Orleans/Oklahoma City center Jamaal Magloire, according to NBA front-office sources. In a trade that will be announced later Wednesday, Milwaukee has agreed to send swingman Desmond Mason, its 2006 first-round pick and cash considerations to the Hornets for Magloire, an East All-Star in 2004. The Bucks, according to sources, felt they needed a more physical presence on their front line to aid the development of No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut and the recently re-signed Dan Gadzuric. Given Milwaukee's logjam of swingmen after retaining Michael Redd, trading for Jiri Welsch and signing Bobby Simmons, a trade involving Mason between now and the February deadline was somewhat inevitable. This one gives the Bucks an opportunity to play Magloire and Bogut together, with Simmons starting at the other forward spot. The Bucks also have Gadzuric and Joe Smith in what suddenly looks like a well-rounded frontcourt rotation. The Hornets have been shopping Magloire for months as part of their own makeover, which accelerated in February when Baron Davis, another former All-Star, was dealt to Golden State.</div> Source For D-Mase? Eh. It's sad to let him go, but Magloire is an All-Star. Overall I say the Bucks are almost certain to make the Playoffs now. Very solid offseason for the Bucks. #1 Pick In Bogut Bobby Simmons Resgined Redd Resigned Gadzuric Traded For Magloire TJ is back etc.
Very successful offseason, especially no disrespect to Mason, not giving up much for him. Does this mean Bogut will be made into a 4? Because I always thought that was a good position for him.
Better still, I think the 4 spot suits Magloire very well. I think we could see him at the 4 and banging bodies and grabbing boards with the ability of an all-star center, but all the while filling a need the Bucks have at the four. Excellent pick up, with little lost in return. Fill me in, can we officially scratch the Ray Allen deal from the Bucks books with this deal? Is every scrap of that trade gone?
<font size=""7"">WHAT?</font> Ok, this is simply my passionate, immediate reaction, but wtf is Larry thinking? Desmond is one of the best players on our team, our only defender, a GREAT guy, a team guy, a hustler, a guy who will help us get to the playoffs. Now we add ANOTHER center? Why did we draft Bogut? Why did we give Danny $36 million? THIS DEAL DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!!! Where is he going to play? Are we going to start his 6'11", 260 lb ass at the 4? Or are we going to further logjam the 5. I don't see WHY THE HELL this deal needed to be made.
Ok I've just looked at our roster once again, and counted to 10, so I think I'm ok to actually analyze this now. This certainly gives us a powerful amount of flexibility in the frontcourt. We've got 4 legit post players now, and two of them have All Star potential. There aren't many teams, East or West, who can say that. It does leave us a bit weak on the perimeter, though. Charlie Bell becomes an even more important backup, as does Toni Kukoc. This really detracts from our perimeter defense, though. Big time. Magloire is a very solid defender in the post, and now our combination of bigs is going to make it tough for opposing post players to go off on offense, but our perimeter D is horrific right now. My next suggestion would be to trade Mo Williams for Bruce Bowen and Beno Udrih This isn't a terrible deal, after all, but it sure was surprising.
2 post players who have all star potential? Name them please. I dont understand why youd trade a valuable player for a starting center when you just used the #1 pick on a center. Bad move.

I like the trade, however, that leaves the team without any slashers that can finish, and basically no defense. However, I like the fact the Bucks are strong at every starting spot and would be very surprised if they didn't make the playoffs.

I think I see them fighting with Cleveland for the 6th spot. This Central Division is very nice and every team should make it.
This should definitely help our playoff chances; Magloire is a solid veteran who's been there before. He is an injury risk, however, and this trade will go to hell if he gets hurt again. I'm just worried about our defense now. We had almost none when we had Mason, now we're just about the worst defensive team in the NBA.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting B-22:</div><div class="quote_post">It is a good trade on paper, but what kind of message does this send to the number one draft pick?</div> That's another thing to think about. I have to assume that we're going to play him at the 4, or this trade becomes completely moronic.

Don't get me wrong, I think he can be in a few years but I got the gist that you were referring to this year. About the trade, I think Milwaukee lost a great player in Mason, but it was inevitable. With the team signing Simmons and acquiring Welsch, the small forward spot was all set and with TJ Ford's return, Mo Williams can also back up Redd at shooting guard. In getting Magloire, the Bucks get a legit 16/10 guy and now Bogut can move to the power forward where he will take less beatings. The only negative I see out of this trade is that I have Dan Gadzuric on my fantasy team, and Magloire will eat away a huge chunk of Dan's minutes.

I don't have any illusions of Bogut being an All Star before about 2008
Honestly, D-Mase will be a sad loss for the Bucks, but I like this trade a lot for them. I envy any team with that much depth at the frontcourt, especially with so few quality centers left in the league. It definitely changes the dynamics of how the team will play (less run n gun), but on the plus side, when the Bucks make the playoffs they will be a much more formidable opponent with that much depth up front.
Ervin is a good backup at center, Dan can start and Bogut was the first overall pick. What was the need to trade for a center especially one who's been injury prone as of late and giving up a first rounder + your locker room guy isnt a good thing. I dont really like this trade for the Bucks in a sense because they have too many players at center but it is good considering they have a proven center who can give them 10/10 everynight if healthy. This move was probably made IMO to get Bobby Simmons his minutes, and bring in another mentor for Bogut.
Magloire will start at a 4 according to MJS. Great trade for Bucks. Since Mason has bulked up he cant shoot as well. Magloire had 12 points 15 boards against Miami

Magloire is a better player then Gadzuric and they invested alot of money on him to be a backup. Its also delaying the progress of Bogut. Of course he'll learn but this further delays his playing time. U guys also gave up a first rounder and money. Not to mention a good player in Mason who is becoming a star in the league. This is like a knick-type trade.
I think, on paper, this was a good deal. It opens up the 3 spot completely for Bobby Simmons, who is still coming into his own and will have an even better season then last I think. It also gives you guys great depth on the frontline. With Gadzuric, Bogut, Magloire, and Smith, you guys have plenty of people to put in the rotation. Overall, I think this was a good trade. It gives Simmons the chance to put up big numbers again and it gives you another big guy. But, we don't know just how good the trade is yet, as we haven't seen them in action.
