With Madden being the only licensed NFL game this year, it better do very well. They have gotten away with having the same graphics engine, and same CPU AI system ever since it went to 128 bit format in 2000. I think NFL 2k5 was the better game last year by far, mainly because it was something different. The popular buy year after year though was Madden, just because of the name. I've always thought the overall gameplay system has been the same from 2001-2005, with minor tweaks (hit stick, playmaker, mini-camp) made to keep people coming back for next years' "update." The AI system drives me nuts, too. The computer always has the same offensive playcalling patterns from 2001-2005, also. They run for the first 2 plays of the game, then do nothing but pass the rest of the game, no matter what difficulty its set on. Another thing that bothers me, is that every year they say they have added 200 new player animations. But every year, the animations look all the same. I have high expectations for this years Madden, hoping they've made changes to make the CPU Offense a little more unpredictable, and making the gameplay a little more realistic. You guys can say what you want about it, but this is how I feel. This will definately be a renter before a buyer this year. If it doesn't improve, looks like I'll be playing MVP '05 over the winter.

I totally agree, that's also why I buy a Madden game every 2 years. I will say from 2003 to 2005...The differences are minimal at best, with the roster upgrades being the only real difference.

I think with the new systems having biult in internet capabilities, EA should give people an opportunity to download new rsoters every year (for $10 or so) instead of buying a whole new game with minima. changes ($50).

Actually, the sad part is, they don't have to do anything they don't want to do. When you have a monopoly on a product or service, you pretty much have free reign to do as little as possible.

As for EA... I thought you might find this interesting:

Your tapped if you think ESPN was way better...I barely even played it and I was slaughtering the computer neverming the fact that the game play was terrible...the only thing about espn that was cool was some of the special features like sportcenter and all that...other than that the game was a Joke...though I believe this years madded in going to be better and the graphics do look like they have changed alot in the trailors I have seen....also I hear they have teamed with espn to some degree so maybe a sportscenter type setup...either way it will be awesome.

My bet is, this year they will use the MNF setup for monday night games only, and ESPN setup for all others.

The ESPN licensing doesn't come into effect until Madden '07.

I'm not a huge fan of the 2K series because for one, I have never played it. Madden actually had some history behind it from Super Nintendo all the way to the new generation consoles (PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube). But I really loved it when they invented the hit-stick thing or the defence to create more forced fumbles, etc. But now they are making another edition to that. The Quarterback Vision, now for the offense as you control a QB, you have to keep in sight of your recievers as they get open and if you can throw it at the right time, they will show like a "movie" of them catching the football. And to make it even more realistic, if you are a scrambling QB like Vick, your vision cone will get smaller, limiting the amount of recievers you can throw to. So from the best to the worst, Peyton Manning, who can see the whole field to the awareness-challenged Kyle Boller who have to stay in the pocket and look for the recievers.

In other words, I can't wait to get Madden '06!
