I know that Portland is a far cry from Malibu, but I know most of ya'll northwesterners probably have a good grasp on California culture, so I ask...

What would it be like living in Malibu? What is the price of living in Malibu, does the culture tolerate a smoker, and does the culture tolerate racial diversity?

I ask this because I might have the opportunity to leave the business world and go to law school, and my California options include Pepperdine. I'm also looking at UC-Irvine, so this question applies to Irvine as well.

(Stanford is my reach, but if I get into Stanford for law school, who really cares about how Palo Alto is... I'm in at Stanford!)

    All input is appreciated input.

Pepperdine is far from anything. I dont know if the law school does this but the university forces you to attend mass every week, so its that kind of vibe.

nice views. not much nightlife. People keep to their own. Smoking would be frowned upon. I would personally not live there. Not much diversity but you get a bunch of yuppie liberals there so if you like fake racial tolerance go for it

But in LA go to loyola unless you can get into ucla or usc...way better networking with big firms than pepperdine. Loyola is in a ghetto area but there is more to do and its better.

    Irvine is all chinese

Zuma beach is nice, or it was in the late 70's anyway.
