I think the Spurs would trade him, but nobody is going to take his contract. He's got a rocky relationship with Pop, and he's not vital to the team right now. I don't think we will protect him in the expansion draft, but the Bobcats probably won't pick him up. Any ideas on what his future is?

Spurs are hoping Charlotte will take him off their hands. Otherwise they will be forced to trade him. He has yet to play a minute in the Spurs/Lakers series and It's a shame as Malik is a great guy and certainly is all about the team.

He was very close to being traded twice at the deadline, he was going to be traded for Jermaine Jones from Boston but when Boston pulled out due to his contract the New York Knicks were very close to agreeing to a Rose for Kurt Thomas trade. However because they left It too late as the deadline had passed the trade did not go through.

Yeah Malik is a great guy. It's sad too if he's traded 'cause he just moved his family down here. A person in his family plays ball for a high school in my region. They're really good too

I love Malik Rose, I don't really think he'd be traded. He's all effort. Plus although he hasn't performed as well as he had last year's playoffs, he's important, he's a great rebounder and really powerful.

Not to mention, both the Spurs and San Antonio itself love Malik Rose, especially Duncan. Keeping Duncan happy would be good seeing as he is the star and he'd play better. He just needs a bit of work is all, he's the workhorse, everybody needs and wants that. If he goes I hope somebody makes use of him, he certainly deserves it, and he sure as hell can achieve it.

It's just a damn shame that Pop doesn't give him more PT: he's very good and can do some damage to any team, also the Lakers. He had 7 boards in just 15 minutes...

I think Malik Rose will be stuck in San Antonio for a while because he's got 5 years left on his contract and teams would be hesistant to acquire him through trade and the Spurs don't need to make a trade right now. He deserves more playing time, but he's playing behind Tim Duncan and Robert Horry so someone's got to miss out. Charlotte are unlikely to be taking him in the expansion draft, even if he's left unprotected. They are after younger players to build a team around, and don't want a big contract.

I'm also surprised he's not seeing more PT on the court against the Lakers. He has been a pain for the Lakers the last couple of years and he brings the physical play, Duncan & Horry lack. Malik will be right in the mix with Karl Malone and Shaq to draw charges and give the Spurs second chance opportunities. He some how found his way into Pop's doghouse, maybe Spurs fans know the reason for it.

As for Malik's future, I think he will play out the remainder of his contract with the Spurs. Horry will likely retire after this year, and Rose will inherit Horry's minutes on the court.
