John Mallinger carded a 5-under-par 33-32=65 in the opening round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

No need to adjust your screen. This actually happened. Mallinger hasn't cashed in his last 10 starts, and he's just 1-for-14 this year, but that's the beauty of the game. He hit 11 (of 14) fairways and 16 GIR en route to what is now his lowest aggregate of the year, finishing two back of the clubhouse co-leaders. He converted on six birdies, including attempts from 10'8", 17'2" and 20'4" at the 12th, 2nd and 6th holes, respectively.
