He wont go to San Antonio because people will see him as a guy who just went to a team that won last time with no real reason not to win again. He doesn't want to do that. He has said before that besides Stock, Shaq is the guy he'd most like to play with. But one thing is for sure-he wont break the point record in LA. He's also coming to an end believe it or not stats wise Last season 34 times got least than 20 points(he's Utah's #1 scoring option and he will have The Glove, Kobe and Shaq getting a lot of points) 34 times hit 6 FG's or less Shot these numbers 0-7, 4-13, 6-20, 1-16, 3-16, 5-16 (twice, back to back), 4-13, 6-16, 6-16, 5-16, 4-15, 2-10, 7-20, 5-17 He wont add that much to LA, he'd be best to saty in Utah but I don't think that's possible.

"Karl is at his ranch in Arkansas right now, and it'll probably be a day or two before he decides," Manley said. "As far as the Lakers (adding Payton), it really clarifies the Lakers for Karl. It definitely makes it very attractive." Malone has shown strong interest in the Lakers from the start of the free agent negotiations on July 1, to a degree that the Hall of Fame-bound power forward is apparently willing to join the dethroned champions for a mere $1.5 million -- a cut of almost $18 million from his 2002-03 salary. The $1.5 million figure is the most L.A. can offer Malone next season after committing its $4.9 million mid-level exception to Payton. Manley, though, emphasized that Malone's decision is "really not about the money at this point </div>

I lose some respect for him for taking the easy way out... I think he woulda signed with the Wolves because he said he wanted to play with KG, but McHale went ahead and took the lesser of the 2 (not really a bad thing) and traded for Cassell... thus Payton really had 1 choice left LA... Hed be stupid to sign in Portland and join the mass problems down there... and Milwaukee is just Milwaukee... its a mess right there too... hes still one of my fav players but I cant root for another west team...

He's already close to an agreement with the Pacers, which, is probably the best place for him right now. Jason Kidd, god, I don't like him going to the Spurs. I don't think it'd work well down there. Plus, why do they need him, they have a kid in Tony Parker who is only 20 years old and showed some very good signs in the finals. But, he also did showed the negatives, you know with that, 1/14 game, yea, bad. But, right now, I thnk Tony is the man down there, now Jason. Kidd should continue to shop around before he goes and accepts anything.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I lose some respect for him for taking the easy way out</div> Easy way out? He's not pulling a Mitch Richmond here. Gary Payton can still contribute and last season had one of his best statistical seasons in his career. As long as he can still make contributions to the team I don't see why him choosing less money is bad for a championship.
