This stupid bastard keeps making one bad decision after another. If it's not his boy Stewart, Its his boy Hughes, If it's not his boy Hughes, it's his boy Joba. Pettitte through 6 is pitching a shutout. only 93 pitches. Take him out. and just like that the Orioles get a 7 run inning off our bull pen. Including a 3 run bomb given up by Joba. But you just keep sending him out there. And now tomorrow you'll make another genius move & give the ball again to Phillip (I can't pitch to save my ass) Hughes. Who's an amazing 4-13 on the year and 0-6 with a 5.64 ERA over his last 9 starts. This schmuck is just lucky the boss is no longer around other wise he'd be out of a job. If I sound pissed, I am. Needed to vent.
Blame needs to go to the GM as well. When. You have terrible players on Your roster sometimes the manager is forced to use them. Until the Yankees get another option to start Hughes will continue to lose games. I have no idea why Andy was lifted or why Joba was allowed to kill that game after a month or so of playing mop up man, that's on Joe. But Stewart playing, wells starting, things like that....that's roster construction issues.
Oh no doubt blue. Cashman is equally to blame for this mess. As far as putting Hughes out there again Huff use to be a starter, give the ball to him. He can't do any worse.
According to the play by play AP gave up two quick hits top so Girardi went to his pen, probably a good move until Kelley, Logan, and Chambermaid all failed at their assigned and implied tasks. Girardi does do stuff that will make one wonder, but given the poor employes sent by BRAIN Cashman he's done a nice job. In the real world these collections of failure would be fired. Look at recent moves by GMs in Texas, Detroit, Oakland, and Pittsburgh to add to their teams then look at what BRAIN Cashman has done. Was against Soriano who has played well and signed Reynolds. The Yankees got two of three from a very good Baltimore team.
When a starter walks five in four innings you need more than three runs. Jeter and Cano with six strike outs. Just can't have it.
Old Lasorda scheme is true, 1/3 of the games you deserve to win, 1/3 you deserve to lose, it's how you play the other 1/3 that determines playoff spots. Yankees deserved to lose today, they deserved to win yesterday, It was bailing out Lord Lardbutt in game won that got them the series. Offense was poopr yesterday and today. Jeter GIDP in successive at bats was not good either. Remember Darvish pitching a gem against the Twins, gives up one base hit followed by a bomb to tie the gam, then a bomb which saw the Rangers lose. Could have happened yesterday against Nova but did not.
First, and foremost, if you are going to have Andy on a short leash in the top of the seventh, you go get him after the leadoff hit. Instead, the outcome was disastrous. In addition, I was holding out hope that he would start Huff tomorrow against the White Soxs, but that dream went up in a cloud of smoke when he used him in the 9th. So lets review. Mistakes Stewart in Starting lineup Wells in lineup, and what happens, bases loaded 3rd strike looking, in first with a chance to rip the O's hearts out. Joba on the team, let alone the mound Burn Huff in 9th meaning Phyloss tomorrow In addition, Jeter is killing this team right now, he is late on everything and I feel not ready for this level at the moment. Give him a day off tomorrow.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Watching nothing get added before Aug 31, is insane. You have 3 and 1/2 dead spots on this roster. Joba, Wells, Stewart and Overbay. You mean to tell me we couldn't at least upgrade 1 of the three let alone all three. With every waiver claim announced I kept waiting for it to be a Yankee. Don't tell me I'm spoiled, don't tell me because of money. The O's were claiming everyone, Rangers, Hell even the Pirates, and the greatest franchise in the sports history valued at 3 Billion couldn't come up with a catcher, DH/OF, or another pitcher. Cashman, you either want to be fire or need to be fired, either one is alright by me. 3.5 games out with a month to go and we'll wait for Clairborne when his minor league season was done. If we had him today, maybe different results, but no we kept Joba....
There it is in a nutshell - Cashman is really planning to get through the ENTIRE season with Joba, Wells, Stewart, and Overbay getting regular PT. All these guys are stop gaps, meaning you have them on the team just long enough before you actively find replacements for them. But no - Cashman saw them as guys who the team was going to keep for the whole year? Girardi should get another year, but Cashman - if he's back - forget about this team being remotely competitive next year. 70 wins would be a huge achievement.
This is going to be like the tenth time I'm saying this going back to when the ESPN forums were still around. Cashman has never been a real MLB general manager. He has shown the ability to do little more than run around with a blank check. He has always been able to sign any huge money guy he wants and also had the resources to cover the millions and millions in mistakes. The poor farm system and the fact that guys have stuck around to the point of having no trade value is good evidence of his ineffectiveness. The move to add Soriano it was said he was against. Well other than that they have done nothing. Reynolds is not some season saving brilliant pickup. He let players like Martin walk and then sold us a bill of goods with not only the crap that is on this roster but also the fairy tale about how he couldn't understand why Martin just ran to the Pirates.
I have been wanting to say this for awhile now, it's is not politically correct, and is truly not meant to insult anyone. Has anyone ever thought or been bothered by the fact that you have Levine, Cashman, Oppenhiemer, and the sorts running this team which has seemed to transformed from baseball people to business people with some sports backrounds. We are very much like Hollywood these days. Controlled by a chosen few.
