Travis Hafner didn't start against lefty Joe Saunders on Tuesday night against the Angels. It's the second time in the past three games he sat against a left-handed starter.

"In life and in sports, especially in baseball, you want to put people in situations where they can have success," said manager Manny Acta. "A lot of our guys are struggling right now. We're trying to figure a way to get them out of their slumps by putting them in positions where they can have success.

"I'm trying to match up Travis the best way possible by giving him the day off against Saunders and throwing him out there against [Ervin] Santana [today]."
