Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs will not pickup his $2.9 million option for the 2016- 2017 season. Fans are wondering if Ginobili is going to retire after a tough performance in the NBA playoffs last season. Manu Ginobili took a break from basketball last summer, and took his time in deciding whether he should come back. As Ginobili took his time, a deadline was coming up for an answer as to what he was going to do. Ginobili was convinced by Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan to come back for another season. That summer Ginobili signed a two-year contract with a player option for 2016-17 worth $2.9 million. He has recently declined to pick up his option. Many are wondering if he has declined the option because he is leaning toward retirement or if he is trying to give himself more time to think. Manu Ginobili wrote on an Argentine newspaper May 17, in a column for La Nacion, “Surely I will sit down with Pop, Tim and some of my colleagues to chat. Then we will see what the objectives are and whether something will change or not. It is still early to see it. It will not depend on my determination of what my colleagues do or anything. But I want to know what the plan is.” - See more at:http://isportsweb.com/2016/06/25/san-antonio-spurs-manu-ginobili-leaning-toward-retirement/
