Manucho Set For United Transfer, Says Fergie

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Alex Ferguson has announced that Manchester United have opted to buy Manucho Goncalves, the 24-year-old Angolan striker.

Angolan international strike Manucho Goncalves has allegedly impressed Manchester United during his three week Old Trafford trial to such an extent that the Red Devilshave signed him.

The Petro de Luanda forward is expected to imminently pen a three-year deal in England, although according to the Angolan Press Agency, work permit concerns could potentially make this difficult.

Manucho, 24, does not have the required number of caps for the Angolan national side, the Palancas Negras, and as such an appeal will be required.

However, United were successful in landing Brazilian wunderkind Anderson in this way, so not all hope is lost for Manucho.

Indeed, club manager Sir Alex Ferguson has announced that a work permit application will go ahead after the player was offered a contract.

"We have had Manucho here for a 3-week trial and have been impressed enough to offer him a 3-year contract," he told the official club website.

"He is a tall, agile, quick forward and through contacts that [scout] Carlos [Queiroz] has, [he] was brought to our attention around six months ago."

It is possible that the forward, who has scored a total of 31 league goals in two seasons in Angola, could be transferred to a Portuguese club as part of a loan deal to ease his transition to European football both on the pitch and off.

The player is expected to arrive in Europe in February after the conclusion of the African Cup of Nations.</div>
