Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Damn, I read an article that the Suns were interested in him this morning and someone on the Arizona board said that Gambo said that the deal could be finalized by Thursday or Friday. They are offering him a deal at about 22 million for 5 years and he chose us over the Rockets who offered him around 25-27 million. Gambo has been wrong though so i'll just wait until Friday to get too excited, but I would LOVE this signing.Banks would finally give us an actual point guard who know what he's doing and I read he should fit right into the fast pace offense. He'll be 25 in November so he'll be good for a while, way better than getting Hunter or someone else that's really old. He should shoot a decent percentage from the 3-point line for us and I'm just glad we have a shot at getting someone who won't get lost. PLEASE GET THIS DONE SARVER YOU SOB! I expect him to get close to 20 minutes per game with us. Signing him would make us 8 1/2 deep, 9 if James Jones does not choke in the playoffs again. Then we should also have enough to sign a big man a little bit over the minimum. Any guys available who can come in and block a couple shots for us every once in a while? And about Banks, I may be wrong about his skills running an offense but like Salmons would have done he give us someone else who can handle the ball at least. He's listed as a point guard so I just hope he can do well. This might make up for everything that has happened. Amare>TT Banks>House.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Next step, trying to trade James Jones and the exception for a respectable back-up big man. I love James Jones but the Suns just can't risk him choking again and Lampe could turn out good this year if we sign him but I'm not so sure yet. He's only 21 and we need someone who can produce well now.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... O.O I'm listeing to Gambo/Ash. One of them said that midwest ppl don't know anything about basketball. I'm from the midwest!!! screw those bitches lol.I hope we signed Banks, I'd be excited. I still need to get me a Diaw jersey
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... No offense zona, while I was high on getting Banks, he's not a pure pg. He's still learning how to run a team, his best asset is his on the ball defense. He still has to work on his shooting and adjusting to running point. He's better then Barbosa though at running a team, so it's an improvement. It also allows Barbosa to slide to off guard when he comes in.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Yes, I was thinking about it and I didn't think he was a pure point guard but it does help to get a guy who's a little more reliable and with Nash on the bench they'll have a couple guys now who can handle the ball. His defense was a big part of getting him too. When Raja was sitting, guards would just run all over us. It's good to have Banks now, that House-Barbosa combination was horrible on D.And I don't know why I'd take offense to that. Thank you for contributing to the thread and not allowing the Lakers threads to make it dissapear.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Banks is definetly better than John Salmons would have been,The Lakers were his first choice but we spent the money on Vlad Rad...Anyway Banks would be a great pickup to backup Nash,He's a good defender and also a good jumpshooter. His only problem is experience. He has never been to the playoffs so to join a team like the Suns he needs to gain more experience. But playing with a veteran point guard in Steve Nash I'm sure he would flourish in the suns offense and learn from Nash.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... It's official now guys! 5 years/$21M! http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/415...s_with_phoenix/ <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Arizona Republic - Marcus Banks arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday night and came to terms with the Suns on a five-year contract worth about $21 million. The deal could be official as soon as Thursday. "We're honored to be with the Suns and a hop, skip and a jump away," his father, Arthur, said. "We really feel like it's an ideal fit with the Suns' style. Marcus is so ecstatic about it." "It could be really effective," Banks' agent, Michael Higgins, said. "He really likes D'Antoni. He told me he'd be thrilled just to learn from Steve Nash."</div> I love this. Not only am I a huge Marcus Banks fan, I am happy about 2 things: 1. I'm glad he got a contract like that 2. He will fit in perfectly with Phoenix! He is easily top 3-5 in the league in speed and quickness, and he is a very talented young PG. His playmaking skills are a little questionable, but they are improving and no doubt in my mind they will improve learning from Steve Nash. His jumper is also still a little shaky, but again, improving. You guys will love him though, he will be a fan favorite type player. In the words of Tommy Heihnson: "Way to go Mahcus!!!"
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... pretty good signing. Banks is very talented and can definitely succeed in an uptempo system. I'm a little sad bc he didn't work out in Boston. but good for Phoenix. MUCH better than getting Salmons, trust me on that one.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... I heard they wanted him more than Salmons but didn't think they'd get the chance. Kind of weird that they got him for less money than Salmons too. Next:1. Get another big man without trading KT.2. Sign Diaw to a big extension. If they do those two things then it will be a very successful offseason and I will lay off Sarver for a bit.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Marcus is a great guy to have on your team, I think he'll be fantastic in the run and gun style of ball you guys play. One aspect about marcus that people don't talk a lot about is his ability to take it to the rack. He is so quick off the dribble and he's hard to stop once he gets going.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Barbosa was never really a point guard so I think this is great for the Suns. Banks will be the sucessor to Nash in Phx. I am sure they would like to able to limit Nash mins a little bit. He played a career high number of minutes last year, not something you want to have to do when your 32. I this really helps the Suns a lot more than people really think. I can't wait to see Banks running the break when Nash is on the bench.Nash/BanksBell/BarbosaLooks much nicer than...Nash/BarbosaBell/HouseNice addition to an already exciting team to watch.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Yeah the lineup looks much better now. The backcourt quickness of the 2nd unit consisting of Banks and Barbosa is going to be lethal in the Suns style of play. I can't wait to see it, Marcus is going to flourish in that type of run-n-gun game.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Some more of my thoughts on this signing:I'm so happy something got done.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Now you guys can really get some stops when you need em in the playoffs. Banks isn't much of a true PG like Nash but he could score and has an inconsistent jumper.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ArizonaFan @ Jul 19 2006, 07:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'></div> LMAO!
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Suns still need another big man, if Amare and Thomas start or Diaw instead of Thomas. That's only one big man off the bench. That's pretty weak.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... That's 2 more big men than they had last year but the suns flaw is they don't have any shot blockers. The mismatches though are pretty effective. Much more effective than when Dallas tried to play small. Without Diop Phoenix beats Dallas.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... Yes, we need another big man. If they can trade James Jones, who I think will do well but choked last year in the playoffs and the Suns fans have no faith in him, a pick for next year and the $3.6 mil trade exception they might get something, but I have no idea what they are going to do next. I read in the paper that they were going after one but they might just mean they should go after one. Either way I am happy with this team. D'Antoni is going to have a lot of fun putting out different line-ups this year.If we can't get another big man through a trade then I would love to see Maciej Lampe be signed again. I loved him here when he was 19 and now he's only 21. His defensive game isn't that great yet but he has a good shot. With a good coach like Iavaroni and a vet like Kurt Thomas to help him out I think he could turn out pretty well for us.But even if we don't get a shot blocker Kurt Thomas did play great D for us last year and with Amare back and Diaw playing well at center then they won't need him to log heavy minutes and get worn out.
Re: Marcus Banks! Almost... ugh i hate lampe. how much money we got left? i think james jones will be decent, but we dont really have a lot of roster space for him. cut matrix and nash's minutes down to 35 and 30 respectively
