DE Marcus Spears had an outstanding morning practice. He was very active in team drills, disrupting several plays in the backfield.

I know Spears isn't a fan favorite. That's what happens to first-round picks who don't develop into stars. Spears is a solid defensive end who didn't play in passing situations last season.

Spears might need a good training camp to prevent his playing time from being further reduced. When Jerry Jones mentioned in his opening press conference that several second- and third-year players were significantly improved, he cited backup DE Jason Hatcher as the example. Jay Ratliff seeing spot duty at DE could also send Spears to the sideline.

The threat of more time on the sideline would seem like a great motivator for a guy with two seasons left on his rookie contract. Spears certainly looked like he had a fire lit beneath him this morning.
