Jason Vargas is hearing discussions of his departure second-hand. As the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches, Vargas is doing plenty to get his name onto the tongues of general managers desperate for pitching down the stretch. On Thursday night, Vargas allowed one hit over eight innings to win his career-high 11th game, and Mike Carp had three hits to help the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 4-1.
