Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, sidelined by a stress fracture in his foot this summer, returned to campus Thursday after missing practice Wednesday. Herzlich tweeted that he was getting his routine three-month checkup as part of his recovery from Ewing's sarcoma, for which he began treatment a year and three months ago. No negative news emerged Wednesday, with a scan of his lungs turning up clear, a team source told ESPN's Joe Schad. "Mark's tests came back fine. Blood work and CT scan were normal," Herzlich's father, Sandy, wrote in a text message, according to the Boston Herald. "The MRI [on his left leg where the tumor was] hasn't been ready yet but the doctor expects nothing bad." Herzlich missed the 2009 season after doctors found the cancer in May. A rod was inserted in his left leg to stabilize it, and he underwent radiation and chemotherapy, all the while vowing to return to the practice field. He was able to rejoin his teammates for winter conditioning in January, and was set for summer practice when he injured his foot during drills in July.
