"Mark Parrish spent more time in the minor leagues last season than he did as an NHL prospect. He didn't particularly like it, especially when he missed the birth of his son, Turner, on New Year's Eve.

"I was stuck in Binghamton, New York," he said. "That was the biggest price I paid."

Parrish scored 17 goals among 38 points in 56 games for the Norfolk, Va., Admirals before getting a late shot with the Tampa Bay, for whom he had two assists in 16 games. But the 33-year-old Bloomington native and Twin Cities resident says he's not done playing. "I'm not ready for TV yet," he said Friday.

He felt the same way last spring, when he vowed to improve on a disappointing season with Dallas. But this time, he believes, is different. He's in better shape, working with a skating coach and in a better place emotionally.

Although he played 44 games with Dallas during the 2008-09 season, he still was smarting over being pushed out of Minnesota. After signing a five-year deal with the hometown Wild in 2006, he was bought out of his last three years in a cap move on July 30, 2008.

"I think getting over what happened in Minnesota was tough emotionally and mentally," he said. "It took me awhile to get over it. Unfortunately, I was still going through that in Dallas. I was still kind of in shock and still pretty bummed out that it happened. I don't think I realized that until now, when I looked back." "
