Mashburn out for the entire 2004-05 NBA season

    September 27, 2004
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Former All-Star forward Jamal Mashburn will miss the entire 2004-05 NBA season because of a knee injury that could end his career.

Mashburn and the New Orleans Hornets made the announcement Monday, a week before the start of training camp. Mashburn played in only 19 games last season, averaging 20.8 points, after undergoing surgery to remove loose particles from his right knee.

A first-round draft pick of the Dallas Mavericks in 1993, Mashburn also played for the Miami Heat before joining the Hornets in 2000. He made the All-Star team in 2002-03 when he averaged 21.6 points.

It's too bad...he was a pretty good player actually. Oh well...I saw this coming, and I tried warning guys not to trade for him when we were doing our mock off-seasons, lol.

He used to be a pretty solid player. He averaged good numbers and helped out all of the teams he was on (Dallas, Miami, and New Orleans). But now, he isn't much of a factor and he should retire.

Sucks. He was a really good player. Is there any possibility that he can come back at least, like, 80%?

Hell fuckin no there isnt a chance.

Dont you think that they would wait until they were absolutely sure? They wouldn't want to make an announcement like that prematurely.

It's a shame that careers with so much potential have to be messed up prematurely due to injuries. Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, and now Jamal Mashburn. Who knows if he will come back as the same Mashburn.

Poor Jamal, he was really good, imagine a life without injuries, the league would be packed with ridiculous cats with mean games... the stars of today such as kobe, t-mac, duncan, garnett, iverson + hill, penny, mashburn, VC!.... man we would have trouble ranking the best players on a list...

Damn I'm sorry Hornets Fans....I was a big fan of him when he was with the HEAT and became bigger fan of him when he got his old himself back with the Hornets. Another great talent fallen by injury. First Zo, now Jamal...
