<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Press Release - Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that forward Jamal Mashburn has been waived; subsequently, Mashburn has announced his retirement from the NBA. The 76ers roster now stands at 13.?I?ve had a long career in the NBA and have enjoyed my experience,? Mashburn said. ?I look forward to retirement life. It doesn?t mean I am not going to stay busy, but it?s time to move on and accomplish some of the other goals that I have set for myself. It?s been a great time. I?ve learned a lot, but now it?s time to move on.?</div>Source: Sixers.comNot much of a surprise here, but I didn't think he needed to be waived in order for us to received the medical insurance and all that, but whatever.Too bad he couldn't play for us... he would have been huge. But, then again, if he was healthy he probably wouldn't have been traded here in the first place.

The guy was never prepared 2 play, so they had no choice but to let him go, and he can't get healthy so it's a bad idea for him 2 continue career for no reason.

He was only acquired because Glenn Robinson was being a little asshole since Iguodala beat him out for the starting spot. The Sixers only acquired Mashburn in an attempt to gain salary cap relief. They had to wait two or three years, per CBA rules, and the day has finally come when his contract can come off the books.

This will give us some more money at the end of the season.
