<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Desmond Mason isn't fretting that the Milwaukee Bucks are spending a significant amount of money on free-agent small forward Bobby Simmons.
Mason, the Bucks' incumbent small forward, sees it less as a threat to his position and more as a move to help the team climb back into the National Basketball Association playoffs.

The 6-foot-5 Mason is confident he will keep his job after starting 71 of 80 games last season. And it's possible the versatile 6-6 Simmons could play at three positions - small forward, power forward and shooting guard.

One scenario to keep both Mason and Simmons in the starting lineup is a "small" Bucks lineup that would feature Michael Redd, Mason, Simmons, No. 1 draft pick Andrew Bogut at center and T.J. Ford at point guard. In that lineup, Simmons would play at power forward, mimicking the Phoenix Suns lineup with 6-7 Shawn Marion in that position.

"I want to win games," Mason said during a break at the inaugural Desmond Mason Basketball Camp at Homestead High School on Thursday. "I don't want to have a year this upcoming season like we had last year.

"I've always been the type of player, if you bring in a guy at my position, regardless of the situation, I'm going to compete."</div>

Why can't all NBA players have this type of attitude?

"You're going to have challenges and you're going to have competition," Mason said. "That's what basketball is all about. If you don't have competition for spots, then you don't have a good team. [IMG]
