Lt. Catherine Buckley said officers were responding to a report of shots being fired when they spotted a suspect matching the description of the person they were trying to find. Buckley said the suspect opened fire, and police fired back. ADVERTISEMENT Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the suspect went down the street with a rifle. Matt Abshire, 21, told the Colorado Springs Gazette he looked outside his apartment window and saw a man shoot someone with a rifle. Abshire said he ran to the street and followed the man and called police. The man suddenly turned and fired more shots, hitting two women, Abshire said. Their names and conditions were not available. Alisha Jaynes told KKTV-TV 11 News she was at an ATM when she saw a man with a gun walking calmly down the street. "They yelled, 'Put the gun down,' and he turned around, and that's when they shot at him a good 20 times," she said. "There was a lot of gunfire." Buckley said the crime scene covered several major downtown streets. Those streets were shut down most of the day while investigators tried to figure out what happened. Buckley said the investigation of the police shooting has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. El Paso County sheriff's spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby said there are at least three crime scenes.
4 dead after morning shootings in downtown Colorado Springs The rear window of a Colorado Springs Police car is shattered by gun fire in front of the Wendy's restaurant on Wahsatch Avenue in Colorado Springs as police investigate the one of the scenes from a shooting rampage that left three victims dead Saturday morning, Oct. 31, 2015, in Colorado Springs. The shooting began on Prospect Street near Platte Avenue and ended at Wahsatch and Platte avenues where police exchanged gun fire, killing the suspected shooter. (The Gazette, Christian Murdock)Show More Gunfire rang out Saturday morning east of downtown Colorado Springs, leaving bullet-riddled bodies lying in the 200 block of North Prospect Street and in front of a Wendy's restaurant on North Wahsatch Avenue. Police confirmed Saturday afternoon that three victims were killed by a gunman with a rifle. The suspected shooter was killed in a shootout with police. He was gunned down by Colorado Springs police after he apparently turned and began shooting at police. A witness who lives across Wahsatch said police yelled at the man to put down his weapon before officers returned fire. Shortly before noon a pile of the suspected shooter's belongings still sat in front of the restaurant. El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby and Lt. Catherine Buckley with the Colorado Springs police each said officers were called to the area at about 8:45 a.m. after multiple residents along Platte Avenue reported hearing gunshots. Police were searching Platte for a possible shooter before the shootout began, Kirby said. A man who lives in a small apartment building at East Platte Avenue and North Prospect told The Gazette that the man shot by police shot a person on Prospect Street and two more near El Paso Street. The victim on Prospect lay motionless next to a bicycle for more than a half hour while police began their investigation around 9:30 a.m. Matt Abshire, 21, said he had heard a commotion outside while in the kitchen of his upstairs apartment just before 9 a.m. He said he looked outside and saw a man shoot another with a rifle. Abshire quickly went outside and followed the armed man around the corner. Abshire continued to pursue the shooter west on Platte while calling police on his cellphone. The 21-year-old said the alleged shooter made it west of El Paso Street then suddenly turned to his left and fired more shots. Abshire said those gunshots struck a pair of women, one of which he said had stopped breathing by the time he approached her. Abshire said it appeared the woman had been shot in the face. He said he took her pulse and did not feel a heartbeat. "She was dead," he said, noting that he then continued to follow the armed man toward Platte and Washsatch. That's when he saw the shootout between the man and police. Abshire said he returned home when more officers arrived. Ryan White, 24, who is Abshire's roommate, woke up to the sound of gunfire. By the time he got outside, Abshire was coming up Platte. "I woke up to three gunshots and then I saw my friend coming up the street with blood on his hands," White said, noting that Abshire said he had been holding the head of a woman who had been shot. Aaron Nicks, who said he lives on the east side of Wahsatch Avenue, told reporters that he was taking his dog out around 9 a.m. when he saw police shoot the suspect. Nicks said police fired several times before the man fell to the ground. Police quickly attended to the suspect and loaded him into a vehicle, Nicks said. The Sheriff's Office took over the part of Saturday's investigation that involved the police officers involved in the shooting. Colorado Springs police are handling the rest of the investigation, Kirby said. Officials have blocked off what Buckley called an "extensive crime scene." They expect the closures to remain for most of Saturday. Police and the Sheriff's office are telling people to avoid the area that includes Platte Avenue from Corona Street to Weber Street, Wahsatch from Boulder Street to Kiowa Street, and Prospect Street south of Platte.
Thanks! Seriously, like John Hancock wouldn't be one of your top choices for a Halloween costume. That and Captain Ahab. Oh and Captain Queeg, you would make an amazing Captain Queeg.
It's too late to save this world; we've been on the downside of the bell curve since the discovery of gunpowder.
3 = a mass now? I guess we need to refer to most auto accidents as mass killings also. Here's one from yesterday: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...r-plows-trick-or-treating-families-killing-3/
You got bent when I posted some dude jumping off a bridge. You joke about marzy In this tragic event? Wtf????
I didn't get bent. I laughed, liked it, and said if it was the first of many Trump supports. Someone else got a little concerned about it.
No, I actually like posts for a variety of reasons, some because even if I don't agree with it, it was a well thought out argument or reply. I use likes as a way to encourage people to post more. Just earlier today there was a post by someone who doesn't post often in the Blazers section, I didn't agree with what he said at all but I wanted him to feel welcome here and to continue posting. I can also like a post if I find them funny but that doesn't mean I agree with them. I've clearly pissed off Marazul, he has gone into different threads and insulted me, I like those posts. Doesn't mean I agree with them, it means I find them funny. We know each other well enough, if I would have had a problem with your suicide gif I would have straight up said something. Damn you, now I am bent! (just kidding)
