It says he will remain in the men's prison after the sex change. He should then sue to move to the easier women's prison.
Completely serious question: at what point does a person's mental concept of their sexuality become "approved"? I mean, this person has a penis and was married but considers themself a woman and has started taking court-approved hormones and medicines for the disorder. Is the person a male until the operation? Male until he starts taking hormone therapy? Female as soon as he/she thinks he is? Not that it's super-relevant to this case, but I have no idea and am curious.
im pretty sure he is still a man, just now he has a mutilated penis right? i mean denny, there are people who think they are robots, does that mean that they ARE robots?

Maybe technically a man, but "it is what it looks like" applies. Usually these people will take hormones and dress like the gender they really are.
I used to date a girl and her male gynecologist decided he should be a woman. True story. He sent a letter to his patients explaining his decision, impact on his family (can't imagine what it would be like for his wife and kids), and next steps in the process. Pretty sure it's a state law issue, but in Washington state he could immediately start dressing the part, taking hormones and using the ladies room instead of the men's room. So...next time my ex-gf went to see her doc, she was a she. Too much makeup and dressed way too chickish. In other words, "she" was immediately deemed a woman in the eyes of the law once she made her decision. It was more about her decision and making it public than physical transformation. Another interesting note, she apparently couldn't have surgery until she'd lived as a woman for a certain amount of time. I think the purpose of that was to ensure no citizen made any rash decisions. Again, to be clear, all of the above was based on that gynecologist's letter. No idea if it's still accurate, but guessing it might be.
Not sure what joke you're trying to make, but transgender doesn't necessarily mean someone will be attracted to once sex more than another once they've made the decision. It means they identify as being a man or a woman, but they could be attracted to either men or women. Last I heard, that gynecologist was still with his wife...although it's been a long time and who knows if they still are.
What it means, mobes23, is that in the article it made mention of the fact men in prison who think they're really women tend to be sexually assaulted much more. Or maybe it's the other way around- maybe men in prison who are taking it up the ass more than most other prisoners start thinking of themselves as women... In any event, that was why I changed the wording. To make it more accurate with respect to the article itself. So now you know.
I'm a genius stuck in a moron's body. I'm going to sue all of you to treat me like what I want to be.
As a kid I rode the bus with folks that thought they were napoleon Joan of arc and jesus. Pay for an operation! If the government is stupid enough to pay for it there will be plenty of doctors lining up to do it.
There are no operations for those things. Gender identity is a biological issue, not a psychological one.
This is BULLSHIT! How oh how did humans survive for hundreds of thousands of years without gender change operations? Just because some doctors can "change" gender doesn't mean it should be done, and it certainly shouldn't be done in many instances. And, I was referring to mental patients that truly believed they were someone or something else than what they were. On a smaller scale, how to hell does anyone really know when someone claims they are a "woman" trapped in a man's body? It is complicated and requires extensive (and very, very expensive) therapy. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that if someone tracked folks that claimed to be "trapped" and had a control group of those from very poor countries where there are no operations (thus nothing to miss or fret over), and those from rich countries where they hand out these operations and procedures to any that ask (but without long-term regular therapy required), that the happiness of the poor "trapped" folks was higher than the "fixed" rich country folks. None of this should be paid for in prison. That some prisoners received significantly better health care than many millions of Americans is a scandal. Oh snap some rich country studies have questioned the effectiveness of sex change operations. Why am I not surprised, people constantly forget how much of modern medicine is unproven experimental horsepucky! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21364939 http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2004/jul/30/health.mentalhealth
