Matt Hagan was the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car at the NHRA Nationals on Friday and clinched a spot in the playoffs. Spencer Massey, Mike Edwards and Eddie Krawiec also took the provisional top spots in their respective categories. Hagan drove his Dodge Charger to the provisional No. 1 spot during the second qualifying session. Hagan recorded a 4.101-second run at 303.57 mph to move past John Force. Hagan's first-round run was strong enough to secure a spot in the Countdown to the Championship, NHRA's six-race playoff for the world title.
