Just heard that the Mets asked Harvey to go to the minors and he refused. So in the next 7 days the dark knight will no longer be a Met.
His career, once promising during his first two seasons, has since been derailed by several injuries and ineffectiveness, including Tommy John Surgery (not once but twice), Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and a Stress Fracture in the Scapula (shoulder blade)..... hard depressing times for the Dark Knight, going from the #7th overall draft Pick (2010), finding some success, then basking in the bright lights of the 015 Series; to down in the dumps, DFA'd, never physically to be the same again??? Never been a Harvey Fan, but can't help but feel a bit; a small bit for him or anyone who's fallen hard, from the pinnacles to the pits. But then that's Baseball, Football, sports in general less badmitton..
Sorry to see this. Everything, especially injuries, are tenuous outcomes for many sports’ players. Hope he will be able to rebound from this obstacle......but it looks like his future will not be with the Mets.
He'll land on his feet with someone. He has to learn to transform from a power pitcher to more of a finesse pitcher like CC etc although he is still hitting 96 on the gun.
^^^^is he worth a Yankee look? Since Trashman is looking for short term fix-it starter, he could fit the bill. Truthfully, I do not know what Trashman is looking for? He would rather gamble on untested kids than a battle-tested pitcher. Whatever he does, let’s hope he does not overpay!
I don't see any team taking him on their main roster unless he goes down and shows some results in the minors
I dunno, maybe a change of scenery and a change of leagues might help, as well as a different pitching coach who might spot part of the problem after looking at tapes.
MSN Sports posted an article of 7 Teams for Harvey to land. Top two were Pirates and Giants. Yep Yanks were #7. They have enough reclamations problems already with Gray, Shreve, German and others.
I cannot help but think RV has something left to offer. He obviously needs a change of Direction, Style, delivery and God knows what else. First pitcher comes to mind, ( other than CC) is Gaylord Perry. Gaylord was throwing a hundred miles per hour in 69 when I saw him at Candlestick. Few remember Gaylord as a flamethrower, who had to convert later on in his career to a junk baller...
Harvey, 29, has struggled mercilessly this season. He owned a 7.00 ERA with a 5.71 FIP over 27 innings. That’s right in line with his disastrous 2017. In fact, he’s been awful since the start of the 2016 campaign. The right-hander looked nothing like the pitcher who rose to prominence in the years prior. Consider these numbers: Harvey 2016 - 2018: 5.93 ERA, 5.02 FIP, 6.91 K/9, 3.43 BB/9, 1.48 HR/9 (212.1 IP) Harvey 2012 - 2015: 2.53 ERA, 2.65 FIP, 9.46 K/9, 1.98 BB/9, 0.63 HR/9 (427 IP) https://www.pinstripealley.com/2018...agent-signing-trade-mets-matt-harvey-pitching
I know, this chart is kind of flaky for any metric... yet it does show most of his pitches dropping off a cliff this year...
