The drum beat for a Matt Brown title shot is getting louder. Pretty crazy to think this guy was 5-5 in the UFC with losses to Brian Foster and Ricardo Almeida, two fighters no longer with the promotion. His win this weekend over veteran Mike Pyle was his sixth in a row, all but one of those wins coming via knock-out or technical knock-out. The 29-second win over Pyle was his best performance yet and Brown called for a title shot afterwards. Fighters have gotten one for less. Not bad for a guy who once flat-lined from a heroin overdose and was resuscitated (hence the nickname). It stands to reason that Brown still needs to beat a ranked opponent before the UFC puts him into the title picture--perhaps two. Brown is now the 10th ranked welterweight in the UFC's system (technically 11th including GSP). Most of the welterweights ahead of him aren't contracted to fight soon, including Rory MacDonald, Demian Maia, Jake Ellenberger, Nick Diaz, Tarec Saffedine, and Robbie Lawler. Presumably four of those guys (likely not Diaz) will be matched up against each other in the near future leaving someone open for Brown.
