Canadian actor Matthew Perry admits he was drunk and stoned much of the time he was doing the smash sitcom 'Friends.' His career has been hit and miss since then, including this NBC effort 'Go On.' Canadian-born Friends star Matthew Perry has revealed for the first time he was wasted on drugs and booze during the run of the smash sitcom. Perry — who was born in Ottawa — told ABC News being a celebrity and having high-profile addiction meltdowns ended up helping him get clean. “Mostly it was drinking, yeah, and opiates,” the rehab frequent-flyer told ABC, adding that his castmates — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow — were in the dark for a long time. “I think I was pretty good at hiding it, you know, but, you know, eventually people were aware,” he said. “I honestly recoil [at photos of himself during that era.] It’s scary to look at that. I was a sick guy.” But Perry, 43, was eventually caught and his deep personal demons exposed. On an almost weekly basis, the supermarket tabloids were filled with stories of his debauchery, looking drunk or stoned. But the public meltdown may have helped. “It actually ultimately helped me because I couldn’t just walk into a bar,” he said. “Everybody in the bar would go, ‘You can’t do that. I just read that you can’t do that.’” Read more: http://www.canada.com/entertainment...tcom Friends/8466466/story.html#ixzz2V0Yhn8E0
