Quote:

WASHNGTON ? Maybe, just maybe, the Mavericks can hit the curve.

Last year, they were an easy out on the road. This year, their hitting for a much higher average after putting the wraps on a 3-1 jaunt by winning a 122-113 shootout against the Washington Wizards Sunday afternoon at the MCI Center.

Jerry Stackhouse, greeted by boos every time he touched the ball against his former team, hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter among his 28 points as he and Dirk Nowitzki teamed for 60 points.

More Mavericks
After a disappointing 16-25 road record last season, the Mavericks made a point to get off to a fast start away from home this season. They improved to 4-1 on the road. They didn't win their fourth game on the road last season until Christmas.

Man 3 wins on the Road... The leauges best record, Stackhouse/Dirk combining for 59 last night and 60 today. Man if they play this well all year, can we say title?

They also have the best record in the NBA at 7-1.

Great win for the Mavs today. This Mavs team unlike last season are road warriors. If not for the tough back to back game against Orlando, they could very well be 8-0 right now. Stackhouse certainly seems to enjoy his role right now. Hope he continues to contribute this way throughout the season especially after Finley returns. [IMG]

I'd like the Mavs to win against Nash's Suns and the Knicks before starting the tough 10 game schedule starting next Sunday.

the mavs have been playing average or below average teams for all of their home games, so i dont see what's so special about their road record. Hopefully, they will keep up this good road record against good teams like the t'wolves and the spurs. maybe another season like the one 2 years ago when we had the Big 3 in Dirk, Nash and Finely, + NVE...who knows!

^ Agree its early in the season and the teams that got beaten arent top class. The win against Heat and this Wizards team shouldnt be taken lightly. This Wizards team has some pretty solid players and especially after a rough handling by the Cavs yesterday, they were all set to cause the upset.

The Mavericks need some defense before title can even be considered. The Wizards should never drop 113 on you.

^^ They played defense every game until the Wiz game... give them a break. It was the last road game on a back to back. You can't expect them to hold a team below 100 the entire year. I think they played SOME defense on this successful road trip.

I still don't have faith in The Mavericks to be honest with you. Their defensive hasn't impressed me, their still weak defensively against the point guard and power foward postion. The Mike Bibby's and Tim Duncan's of the world will tear this team apart in the playoffs. I'm also worried about their health, Mike Finley and Stackhouse haven't put together a completely healthy season in years, and I don't expect 04-05 to be any different. This team is built for the regular season, I could care less about their record because come playoff time it's a completely different ball game.

Dallas's defense has looked very good to far, they have held teams to 42% shooting until this game. Dampier has been huge for them on defense even If the stats don't suggest so. Dallas look built for the regular season along with the post season.

If this is a team built for the regular season why wouldn't they be any good in the playoffs? Don't forget that you get home-court advantage based on your record, and the Mavs have been very good in the playoffs when they had home-court.

Point Guard defense is the strongest for the Mavs this season. Check out Bibby's stats against the Mavs in the season opener. Dirk's not the best one on one defender to guard power forwards. We have Damp now for support. Add in Marquis and Josh Howard with long arms, who shut down passing lanes, you have a pretty good defensive core.

This team's not going to be as good as Detroit or San Antonio in defense, but the offensive talent of all players and overall depth may offset in the end.

No one's the clear favorite to win the West this season, and with good chemistry and improving on their weakness, I dont see why anyone can ignore the Mavs to make a run at the title.

Here are the Pistons scores for games so far; games where they have given up more than 100 points are in red:

11/13/04 L 108-93 @ Utah
11/11/04 L 117-109 @ Denver
11/08/04 W 99-96 (OT) @ L.A. Clippers
11/06/04 W 99-91 vs Philadelphia
11/05/04 L 101-89 @ Toronto
11/02/04 W 87-79 vs Houston

Detroit is giving up an average of 98 points per game and only scoring 96.

Mavs:

11/14/04 W 122-113 @ Washington
11/13/04 W 94-78 @ New Jersey
11/11/04 W 113-93 @ Miami
11/09/04 L 94-84 @ Orlando
11/08/04 W 101-98 (OT) vs Golden State
11/06/04 W 112-88 vs Memphis
11/03/04 W 106-91 @ New Orleans
11/02/04 W 107-98 vs Sacramento

Mavericks are giving up 94 points per game while scoring 104.

Im not trying to say that the Mavericks are a better defensive team than the Pistons, dont get me wrong. But by saying they havent showed you anything, you obviously are biased in your analysis of the Mavs this year.

Being without Larry Brown and Ben Wallace is a HUGE reason why the Pistons have been so bad on the defensive end this year.

I couldnt of had said it better my self. Im one ot say the mavs have improved so much this year, I honestly think they are title contenders. Im not saying they will win it all, but they are one of my favorites to win the title.

Didn't the Mavs start out with 16 straight wins last year? Yet exited in the first round? Don't get your hopes up too much.

You are correct. It was 14, and was one game away from the NBA Finals.

wut scares me is how we took so much effort to beat golden state and washington. in washington, we didnt have a decent lead until there was 5 minutes left in the last quarter.

^^^Have you ever noticed that some teams dont take some teams to serious. It happend to the Lakers a lot and some people have a tendency to get bored.
