I think a guy that can shoot an outside shot, but can also slash a bit would help out alot.Another shooter would take some pressure off of Dirk, Terry, and Josh Howard from shooting being run at when they are spotting up outside.
I like everything what Marvin said. But with 28th pick in a very weak draft...Mavs have a small chance to get someone to fill that roll. Mavs would have to be lucky to get a steal for someone to fill it. As for specific players I cant make up my mind. Normally in the recent drafts, well not last year since Mavs didnt have a pick. Mavs have always known the position Mavs would be looking for in the draft. 04 Mavs lacked the center spot, they traded for Pavel. 03 Mavs lacked the SF spot, they drafed Josh Howard. As for this year its different, Mavs have so much depth, where do they start. I was leaning twords thinking about a PF since Van Horn might leave, but then I felt like we needs someone like Marvin mentioned. I cant make up my mind. I'll be bias and say Taj Gray for 2nd round, lol
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I say either Rudy Fernandez or Paul Millsap.</div> The perfect pick would be JJ Redick.
I'm with Rok and NBA dogmatist here. I think we Maverick fans have discussed this over and over and over. Most of us think a shooter would work perfect. We've thrown the names Rudy Fernandez, G. Diaz, Maurice Ager, and Daniel Gibson out there. Like Rok siad, Redick would be the most perfect, but we would most definantly have to trade up to grab him. I'm leaning to Fernandez. From what i've seen he looks like a good player that would help the Mavs shooting. For the 2nd round we've listed J.P. Batista, Brad Buckman, and Taj Gray as good backup power fowards that can rebound, hit the open shot, and hustle. I'd be happy with any of those 3.
I think Josh Howard can play backup PF since we have so many guards. Another shooter at the 2 guard would be nice. It's not a necessity since we pretty much have the perfect mix right now. If Terry leaves than it will be a necessity.
I think even with Terry resigning, hopefully, we'll still need a guy with an outside shot.Like I said, we have Dirk, who doesn't shoot that much outside anymore as it is, Terry, KVH, who'll probably be gone, and Howards improving, but not quite fully developed outside shot yet. If some of those guys shots aren't falling, we need another guy that can shoot, but can also slash so he doesn't have too.
Yeah a great shooting guard would be perfect compliments to Harris and Howard. Terry though is needed at both 1 and 2. Still Terry needs to rest at parts of the game so a shooter would be the perfect backup for Terry. Harris, Stackhouse, and Howard is not a potent offensive lineup considering teams will be able to pack it in.
How about no Waqas. Also, to reiterate our need for another sg/sf that can shoot, with Stackhouse's contract up after this upcoming season, I think our need for that sg/sf triumphs over any other decision. And on Van Horn, I don't think many should think he would not be back. There's actually a good chance he will be. Just putting it out there.
A 2/3 like Rok mentioned would be perfect. It would do the needs and fit the team.As for Van Horn, idk what to think. I wouldnt mind him coming back, but he would have to take a major pay cut. Mavs have other priorities. Terry this offseason. Then Dirk and Howard next
Yeah Terry is the key to the mavs offense. He makes it easier for everyone else on the floor by his outside shooting and punishing teams for playing zone. The mavs offense didn't look the same that game Terry was out. Harris will have to develop an outside shot sometime or he will be a liability on the floor on the offensive end. Van Horn is an afterthought and not a necessity considering how packed the mavs team is talent wise.
I wouldn't mind seeing KVH back, at a considerably less cap amount. But to reitterate what I've said, and Rok, a Shooter SG/SF would be perfect for us.
I don't expect Van Horn to take much of the cap, he will get probably a portion of the MLE, not much considering were over the cap anyways. But really I see him back simply because he's a better/best option then what's out there in free agency and draft wise. He gives us depth that's needed during the regular season. I don't mind a Van Horn/Powell platoon behind Dirk.
KVH/Powell behind Dirk, or too replace Dirk if he gets injured, isn't a bad rotation at all.I think Harris/Terry are fine at PG, and Terry/Daniels will be fine at SG...but adding a SG/SF with an outside shot would definately help out alot.
Dallas really doesn't need a quality backup PF though they need another shooter. Howard should be the backup PF in the playoffs. This will also free up Daniels to get more minutes. Diop or Dirk at center is the answer to small ball of the suns. Dallas needs to get Terry first and foremost and after that get Van Horn or Powell for cheap.
Speaking of Daniels, I expect him to be the most likely traded this offseason or during the season next year. As much as that would disappoint mavsfan, it's clearly he won't play much here and with that, he has value and can net us someone who Avery would play. I keep thinking of Van Horn, I believe this is his last series with the Mavs. His talk of waiting a month after free agency to make his decision and being iffy on taking a paycut, I don't see him returning.
Van Horn is crap. When has he done good for the Mavs this year? He played like sh*t last night and has consistently done that. Stackhouse did also but I'll give him a mulligan for playing great in game 2. Not only does Van Horn play bad but it seems to disrupt the whole teams offense in general. Griffin not coming back might also free some minutes for Daniels. Daniels is young so he has plenty of time to get his game together.
