Re: Mavs' Johnson isn't going anywhere http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...de.365dbfe.htmlThe Mavericks may be closer to losing one of their assistant coaches, but won't be losing their head coach. The minute Houston dismissed coach Jeff Van Gundy, it was certain that Avery Johnson's name would pop up in the rumor mill. But apparently, there's nothing to it, as the Rockets appear close to hiring either Rick Adelman or Larry Brown as Van Gundy's successor. Mavericks coach Avery Johnson signed a four-year contract with the team last summer. Johnson has a 143-37 record in the regular season, but his playoff r?sum? took a hit with the first-round loss to Golden State. The Warriors were the first eighth-seeded team to beat a No. 1 seed in a best-of-7 series in NBA history. Johnson's playoff record is 22-18. Vincent is in his first season as a Mavericks assistant, following a year at Fort Worth as head coach of the Flyers in the NBA Developmental League. Jordan has said he is looking for the next Avery Johnson, which would seem to speak favorably of Vincent's chances of being hired on the Bobcats' staff.
Re: Mavs' Johnson isn't going anywhere Avery is a great head coach and even if the Mavs lost two years in a row to the 8th seed, he'd still be there. I just can't see Mark Cuban letting him go after such a solid season.
Re: Mavs' Johnson isn't going anywhere Avery is a great motivator but not a great gameplan type of coach. Taking advantage of mismatches and etc. This explains why the mavs do so well in the regular season but struggle so much in the playoffs. They need someone to gameplan for them.
