Mavs have quickly risen up as my pick to lose to the Lakers in the WCF. They're already loaded, it would be ridiculous if they added Big Z and Von Wafer.

Big Z is gonna go back to Cleveland. Dallas cannot offer him anything that Cleveland can't. Also, with Dampier out for a significant amount of time, Dallas needs to look to bring in a bigman, not another guard. Even when Dampier comes back, he'll need time to get back into shape and into the flow of things, and Haywood can't do it alone down low. You won't be able to get away with playing Dirk at center against the top teams in the league.

Battie may be bought out soon. He could be a serviceable pickup. I was under the assumption that Damp would be back for the playoffs though, if not then Mavs are definitely lacking size in the frontcourt.

There is no timetable for Dampier's return as of right now. I also assume he will be back by the playoffs, but he's going to need a few games to get back into rhythm. A lot of times if guys come back right before the playoffs start, they don't get into their groove and are ineffective for the rest of the playoffs. Regardless, Dallas needs some size up front. Right now, all they have is Damp and Haywood, and Najera who could play some 5 but I would definitely prefer someone like Battie.
