this news is 24 hours old, and first I've heard of it: anyone heard more???

Notably, McCann has a full no-trade clause, so he has the right to veto any potential deal. For their part, the Yankees aren’t inclined to give away McCann and the $34MM remaining on the five-year, $85MM deal they signed him to before the 2014 season.

Odd thing is: no names have been mentioned in return(s)....

Finding a trade partner for McCann may revolve around how willing the Yankees are to retain some salary. While the Yankees are frequently discussed as a team with the most payroll flexibility, they have nearly $130 million on the books for next season. It is also worth noting that McCann has a full no-trade clause and that could compound the matter of finding a trade partner even further.

Cashman and the rest of the Yankees front office will likely weigh the cost of keeping McCann over trading him away in lieu of paying some of his salary and hampering their chances to spend in 2017. The Yankees exceeded the luxury tax this season and have expressed a desire to end their streak of doing so.

There’s no word of any trade talks being hot, but as Today’s Knuckleball reported before the deadline, his old Atlanta Braves team was among those that showed interest in acquiring him. The two teams had talks, but there’s no sense they have anything close at the moment.

The Braves liked the idea of bringing back McCann to be a leader in the clubhouse of their very young team. The Yankees don’t seem to just want to give him away without getting back some young players.

I think your on the money mattingly. Reports are atlanta wants mccann back in time to open their new ballpark next season. Yanks going youth and want the sanchez-romine combo which to me will be fine behind the plate. Only question is comp and it will probably work out to the more money yanks pay of mccanns salary the better the prospect(s) back and if thats the case yanks should pay the whole thing and get a couple more top prospects including young starting pitching

I appreciate McCanns contributions to this Yankees Team and were he to return to Atlanta I'd miss him. On many game days this season he was only one or two of the players I had respect for. Whatever turns up for him I wish him well, he's a damn good Catcher and a quality person.

It's just do diligence as the Yankees knew the chances of him being claimed were slim and none.

to be honest, the one player on this team who show's more gut, grind and determination; the one constant (less the bat); has been McCann, the Team Bulldog. Some rebuke his inability to be Munsonesque, or an all around Catcher, talented beyond the norm-on defense and offense.

IMO, no doubt he's good defensively, I'd give him a B, or B+, may be even an A, for his lack of Error's. Overall, his defense, and calling games, with Pitcher's you and I wonder about, while he's got to catch 'em. He's done a good job, handling erratic pitcher's, never really knowing what to expect, less days Tank pitches.

He's actually improved his throw out pctg's for would be base stealers, improving his toss out rate 12-13% higher in 014-015 (compared to his last A.S. year 013 in Hotlanta).....but- his CS pctg has dropped back to his 013 seasonal stat, so far this year.

the guy's a bulldog behind the plate; a fierce competitor, who we all expected to hit for more power, with the short RF porch; incl. hitting for a higher avg, was to be expected.

Ironic thing is his B'avg in the Bronx was .232 in both 014, 015, and is .001 of a point as of yesterday, from that b'avg...

I think this article written yesterday sums things up, yet the mystery will remain...while no one is expendable...
