McCann is gone. Cashman trades him to Astros for two A ball pitchers. Are you f'kin kidding me? Looks like Cashman's plan may be extended into the next decade! Yankees are paying/eating 11 mil of his contract to boot. What's 11 million?lol
I don't have an issue with it. That's two years and pretty significant money that can be used elsewhere.
Just saw that, I liked Big Mac, hoped the Yankees would hold on to him. Two minor league pitchers in return, fuck you Cashman, hope you got damn good scouting reports that support that move.
Yankees trade Brian McCann to the Astros for RHP Jorge Guzman and Albert Abreu and Cash Considerations. Abreu is Astros #7 Prospect as per Jack Curry.
...thought for awhile that Brian Mc might end up in either Houston or Atlanta...didn't really expect much in return for him considering his age, salary, and the fact that his bat is not as good as it once was. ...and like Mess said, it's frees up mo money to fill other holes as well as freeing up a roster spot.
^^^^I hear you, Lillie. BUT........ there is a difference between a #7 A ball player & #7 AAA ball player. Hope Cashman had appropriate 'scout' input.
...the Yanx were not going to get much in return for McCann, at least not an upper tier prospect, especially when you consider the Yanx also had to eat $11 Mil of the remaining $34 Mil McCann is still owed in order to get the deal done...it was essentially a salary dump.
There will be more salary dumping to come. I think Gardner is next. Lillie, I happen to catch The Kay Show on YES where I first heard this news. The iPad is so much easier to get the news out. My PC is so damn slow......lol
Yes cage that's where I heard it too. By the time I signed on you already had it covered...... Thanks.
I expected a bit more too, at least not having to payout for McCann to play in Houston. Albert Abreu just his A+ Ball here in Lancaster, Ca. at the end of the year: (JetHawks/CA Lg.). He only threw 11.2 IP, with 11K's, and 11 Hits, nothing special so far. Jorge Guzman hadn't even hit Lancaster A+ ball yet. Stuck in Rookie Ball, as of the end of the year. I didn't look to see either in AZ Fall Lg. Now both are non-Astro's, won't be able to watch either prosper or wilt.
from b/r- Abreu's Scouting report, Guzman isn't as far along yet. "Abreu's fastball has topped out at 99 mph, which is a noticeable jump from the 87 to 91 mph he was throwing when he first signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2013: and- "However, he needs to work on secondary pitches, as his slider and changeup require plenty of polishing. Once he is able to consistently get those pitches over the plate, Yankees fans will likely see Abreu climb up the ranks within the minors". Guzman, on the other hand, can unleash a quicker fastball, per JJ Cooper of Baseball America: JJ Cooper ✔ @jjcoop36 Albert Abreu has 4 pitches, touches 99. Jorge Guzman is better when he gears down to 97-99, touches 102-103. Good pickups for Yanks. 2:27 PM - 17 Nov 2016 He hasn't found much success as a starter, though, with a 4.63 ERA in the minor leagues. He hasn't found much success as a starter, though, with a 4.63 ERA in the minor leagues. However, the 20-year-old has developed into a high-strikeout arm, averaging over 11.5 punchouts per nine innings in 2016, per FanGraphs. His ability to cut down on walks has been more promising. After walking 30 batters in 55.1 innings in 2015, Guzman gave up 10 free passes in 17.1 innings with the Gulf Coast League Astros to start the 2016 season. Upon his arrival with the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League, he walked just seven in 22.2 innings. If he can improve on that and hone his control, Guzman could develop into a nice bullpen option in a few years. www.sportstwo.com/threads/mccann-to-astros-for-2-a-ball-pitchers.306398/ both s/b good pickups for the Yanx for McCann
I liked Mc Cann, thought him great behind the plate, came up a bit short at the dish wish him well. And yeah I guess one could apply the term salary dump I'd guess it may be called that. Now lets see Cashman accomplish true non-performance salary dumps but getting rid of Headley and Ellsbury.
...velocity has never been the problem with Guzman/Abreu...much rather give up 5 mph in exchange for command/location.
I like this deal. At this point with Sanchez, Mccann was a glorified dh that bats .240 with power that can be replaced. The 2 kids are young. One will be in tampa and the other in charleston. Both are young righty power arms that can throw 100 plus. The money saved will probably bring back beltran who is a better bat than Mccann with the same power. Keep stockpiling the young power arms. Whoever don't make it as a starter can be a power arm in the bullpen. Gardner should be next and then hopefully headily. I like this thinking
