He had until Saturday night to inform the Pistons of his decision. The move means McDyess will earn $6.3 million next season and could negotiate a contract extension in July. If he doesn't, he'll be an unrestricted free agent next summer. Both his agent, Andy Miller, and the Pistons have said the extension is a viable option, although if soon-to-be-unrestricted free agent Chauncey Billups decides to sign elsewhere, that could change McDyess' feelings.McDyess averaged 8.1 points and six rebounds in 82 games with the Pistons in 2006-07.</div>I was worried that he'd go elsewhere to go after the title, and I'm really happy he's back with us. Hopefully he can play like he did at the end of the regular season for the whole season.
I'm glad he's back, but I don't think we need him after next year, with Maxiell and Amir Johnson. 6.3 million? A little overpayed.
It's starting to look like that the Pistons are really trying to keep there same core of players together, well most of them. This is probley a smart move by McDyess, he loves Detriot and still has a chance to win there so I don't think he ever had a reason to really leave.

No one wants an older player who is going to ask for quite a bit more money then a younger guy who has the same skill set. He's excercing his option to make his last hoorah.
