I've been inoculated against everything by the U.S. Army. Besides, I had the measles when I was a young child. Even had our house quarantined for 2 or 3 days while I recovered.

When I was working out at the Circuit Weight Training room at PCC Sylvania, somebody was discovered to have the measles who used our gym. They had to wipe down all the equipment. In the meantime, I was immune.

Had the measles twice as a kid, chicken pox 3 times.

No big deal at all, there are much, much more deadly diseases to worry about.

Measles was routine until they invented a shot for it. Kids who grew up in the 50s-60s all knew kids who got measles, chicken pox, or mumps.

Mumps is worse than measles. A man who gets mumps has a terrible problem with swollen testicles. It's better to have mumps as a kid and become immune.

Only those who had chicken pox can get shingles. They invented a shingles shot about 10 years ago.

If you had chicken pox and get a rash near your eye, get to a doctor before the shingles goes behind your eye and you go blind. I waited about 3 days to go to the doctor and it was close. I think my eyes are often dry because of that incident.

All of what you say is true except that I don't know about the shingles part. I've heard about shingles but never experienced it. As for the measles, true. I had the mumps but I was only about 5 and don't know about the testicles part. Chicken pox - yes, had that too. Got a smallpox shot in the Army so I'm well protected.

The VA gave me a shingles shot. Cost was free for me.

My wife got her shot from her doctor. I don't know what we paid. Probably 50 bucks.

More than 1 out of every 1000 kids that gets measles dies from it. Another 1 or 2 live but get permanent brain damage.

I was in the VA clinic a couple months ago where they asked if I wanted a Flue shot and a Shingles shot?
Said yes to the Flue shot, but asked about the Shingles shots. I told the doctor (remote link conversations now) hey, I know three people now that got a shingles shot, and then they got the shingles.

The Doctors says, yes, they were having some trouble with that out come.
So Why do I want to risk it?
Well we fixed the problem. Starting this month, we have a new vaccine!!!.
How do you know this one is good? Silence.

    I rejected the Shingles shot.

Besides those that had the Chicken Pox, I think there is one other group that can get the shingles. Those that get the Shingles shot.

    Correction, Chicken Pox

Brought in by an immigrant through PDX, could have been prevented by simply requiring the same vacs our children are required to get.

Had it when I was a kid. Then, I got vaccinated for it in the Army.
Those who don't get vaccinated for it or don't vaccinate their children or get the measles when they were children are playing with fire and subjecting others to that danger.
It should be a requirement to get your kids enrolled in public school. I'll bet that most private schools require it.

    Chicken pox, not measles.

I've had chicken pox and now the first of two shingles shots. I'm dreading the second shingles shot because the first one was far away the most painful shot I've ever had and I've been told that the second shot is worse than the first.
And it is measles which I erroneously labeled as shingles the result of chicken pox.

    Inexcusable.

I had measles at age five. It nearly killed me. I had high fever, rash head t to toe, internal inflammation in GI tract and urethra. Early childhood memories are often sketchy but I clearly remember my mother sitting by my bed, trying to coax a few spoonfuls of soup into me, and me crying because it hurt so much to swallow. I was old enough to go to the toilet on my own when well but I was so weak from fever my mother had to walk me to the bathroom. I remember holding her hand and crying because it hurt so much to urinate.

I spent weeks in bed. My one year old brother was barred from the room since quarantine was the only way to prevent contagion. I was still in bed recuperating when the measles vaccine was approved. My brother got the shot. Probably cried. But never got measles.

Any parent who would deliberately put their child through that is committing child abuse.

You cannot spell “measly” without “Sly”....
