The second son of rock star John Mellencamp surrendered to the Monroe County Jail Monday morning after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with the severe beating of a 19-year-old man.

Hud Mellencamp, 19, turned himself in to authorities around 6:15 a.m., but he was immediately released after posting bond.

Hud, his 18-year-old brother, Speck, and the son of Indiana University baseball coach Tracy Smith, 19-year-old Ty, all face charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury in connection with a July 29 fight that left victim Alex Bucy with severe injuries.

Bucy’s friend said he is doing as well as can be expected.

“He had to miss about a week’s worth of work, and he was able to go back,” said friend Chris Cain. “Ya know, he had to wear sunglasses of course, pretty embarrassed about what had happened.”

According to the Bloomington Police Department, the three suspects approached Bucy at his Bloomington house in the 1400 block of N. Lincoln Street. Police said Bucy reported the three suspects approached him while he was on his porch. The victim stated Speck struck him in the face and he fell backward. While he was down, the victim said the three suspects continued to punch and kick him.
