Re: 'Melo shines in Team USA tryouts

Carmelo Anthony shows up with a chip on his shoulder for Team USA and is their best performer so far. Some quotes:"Very consistent. Very focused," said Miami guard Dwyane Wade, the 2006 NBA Finals MVP. "He's been the best performer here.""He's been one of the best players here," Krzyzewski said. "No one has worked any harder than him during these four days. He's been a real pleasure to have. I've watched him during the NBA season. I think he's better. Not because we're making him better. Whatever he's done since the end of the season, he's better."He's playing defense, rebounding, running the floor," USA assistant and Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He seems like he's on a mission.""He's up, he's an easy guy to play with,'' Krzyzewski told reporters about Anthony on Saturday. "I really like him. I think he's a hell of a defender, too. He's a great player. It looks like he wants to be that. It looks like he wants to be better. He's come here not only wanting to play well, but to get better."better"Anyway, that is awesome to hear. It seems he has worked hard this offseason and has improved his game. Great for him, Team USA, and the Denver Nuggets. Now hopefully JR Smith and Yakhouba Diawara can provide 'Melo with some perimeter support.

Good news for the USA team...im still mad that the usa team has changed so much..who cares about defense, what I liked about watching the usa team was all the alley-oops, super offense by all the all-stars. People like bowen making the team over people like iverson and mcgrady is just crazy.

Wow, This is GREAT news to hear. I love to see that Carmelo is playing with a huge chip on his shoulder. The guy averaged 26 ppg, Lead an injury plagued team to the playoffs, Hit 6 game winning shots and the man still cant make the damn all star team?Ridiculous.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Good news for the USA team...im still mad that the usa team has changed so much..who cares about defense, what I liked about watching the usa team was all the alley-oops, super offense by all the all-stars. I like what team USA is doing, They are building a team that will work well chemistry wise. We have a balenced team now.

I look forward to seeing a U.S. Squad that is hungry and ready to compete. I think that the young guys are all going to come together and play with a sense of pride this time around. The team is littered with character guys, which alongside the talent they have makes for a winning combination.

The only thing I don't understand is having Bowen on the team. Not because of his style of play but his age. By the Olympics start Bowen will be done.

Great to hear...I would play like him too if I was always put in the shadow by Lebron James and Dwayne Wade..maybe this will spark a light for the other players to step their game up and play great

27 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.7 apg, 48% shooting isn't too shabby either. You cant look at Carmelos game with stats for this season. Carmelo Anthony was the best clutch player in the league THIS SEASON. He hit 6 game winning shots and other numerous clutch moments. Anthony in his 3 NBA seasons has made 10 out of 16 game-winning or game-tying shots in the final 24 seconds of a game. His .625 shooting percentage with the game on the line is more than twice the league average of .294. That stat is AMAZING.Memphis only won 5 more games than Denver and they had the much better team. Carmelo lead the Nuggets to a 3rd seed in the playoffs with tons of injuries to his roster.Nene missed the ENTIRE season.Kenyon Martin missed 26 games.Marcus Camby missed 26 games.DerMarr Johnson missed 24 games.Earl Boykins missed 22 games. Eduardo Najera missed 18 games.Francisco Elson missed 10 games.Carmelo STILL lead his team to the playoffs despite never having a healthy roster. I think that is amazing.

I have to agree with Tony. Carmelo went threw the year being the only consistently healthy guy on his squad besides Andre Miller. The ball was in his hands at the end of every single game and he did not dissapoint anybody. Sure, Pau Gasol had a good season but Carmelo had a better one at every aspect. You cant argue with statistics

Exactly. If Marcus Camby, K-Mart, and Nene can stay healthy for 75 games each, the Nuggets would be a top 4 team in the West, right behind Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix.I'm happy Melo is doing well, but the #1 most impressive/intriguing comment in that article is Coach K saying he's "one hell of a defender." That's an area he struggled in a little bit in the past 3 years. I'm happy he's improving, and I'm happy he's "on a mission." He is going to be an extrodinary players in this league, and if he's not an All-Star in 2007 I will hire a hitman for the NBA league offices and coaches haha jk.

Re: 'Melo shines in Team USA tryouts

And he continues to shine:"Wearing his usual No. 15, the reserve forward had a game-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting with two 3-pointers and two big dunks in about 14 minutes.""He's practiced real well and he's played real well," USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "The position that he's in, LeBron (James), Dwyane (Wade), they're going to get opportunities, which is what he should do. (Anthony) was a really highly effective player in the scrimmage."Said Team USA forward Elton Brand: "That's how he's been playing the entire camp." Link
