Indianapolis Colts safety Melvin Bullitt, Bob Sanders' replacement and the team's special teams captain, is out for the season after breaking a bone in his right shoulder Sunday in Jacksonville, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Bullitt will have surgery in two weeks and be placed on injured reserve.

Sanders already is nursing a biceps injury that will sideline him into December, if not for the season.

The Colts are 2-2 after Sunday's loss and 0-2 in the AFC South for the first time ever, and injuries -- beside the ones to Bullitt and Sanders -- have been a big problem for Indianapolis this season.
