I am guessing either we throw in an asset or two for Harris, or throw in extra assets for Billups.

Carmelo isn't going anywhere but the Knicks. That's the only reason why the Nets deals aren't going through. There's no way Melo wants to join a rebuild project.

A rebuild project like the Knicks? I'd take NJ over them if I were him, even though he likely won't. Would prefer to play with Lopez over Amare, personally.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

The Knicks were an average team last year. The Nets on the other hand, worst in the NBA. Knicks lost David Lee, but got Amare. Yes, you could argue that Lopez is probably a better supporting piece than Amare, but the Knicks are in very good position to form their own big three. If Amare and Melo join up, a PG like Chris Paul will be very tempted to join. The Nets are in pretty good position too with Favors and Lopez, but they are still a few years off from being contenders. Melo wants to win now.

If he wants to win now, then it would seem silly to wait two years for Paul to join him in NY with Amare.

So... the Knicks want the Blazers to give Denver Batum so that they can get Anthony.

Yeah, we'll get right on that.

Maybe I'm missing where Batum is mentioned or even implied

    Re: Carmelo Trades

What is that 1st round pick the Knicks would have acquired to get Melo if there was a deal was NOH's and Portland swooped in and got it to make sure they were involved in any deal?

    CHO-WNED!

Sorry, I see, thanks. Had missed that somehow on my first reading.

Yeah, no chance we move Batum to help Carmelo go elsewhere. And get just Harris in return. No thank you.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

I don't think they are looking (at least legitimately) at the Blazers giving up Batum. I think the Knicks want a three team deal that looks somthing like this

    To Denver
    PDX first rounder
PDX protected first rounder from Bayless trade
    Eddie Curry (expiring)
    Chandler
    Gallinari
    Joel Przybilla
    Miller

    To Knicks
    Anthony

    To Blazers
    Bullups
    Randolph

    Works on trade machine

Don't like it. Love Billups, but he's even older than Miller and may be past his sell-by date. And I hate Randolph - he's all sizzle, no steak and rumored to be uncoachable. Plus he looks just like Tony "The Candyman" Todd. No, we can wait...

    Re: Carmelo Trades

I am not sure. I don't love it, but that was the trade that I think is being discussed based on putting together the tidbits from all the leaks. I like the idea of getting Billups, for Miller and something, but I think both firsts makes it too much for a bandaid. One possible change is Gallinari to PDX and Randloph to Denver, but I don't know if denver would do that.

I don't think Devin Harris would be available, based on this:

The way I read this (though it is just interpretation) is that the Nets don't want to involve the Bobcats because the Bobcats want Harris. Which suggests that the Nets don't want to give up Harris.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

I bet this is old news. There was an article that came out a few weeks ago saying Portland tried to get in the NJ/DEN deal by bringing in the Hornets that would net us CP3. I think we set the bar with what we'd want to give up Batum. Harris wont cut it. Neither will any Knick player.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

On paper a Roy/Paul backcourt looks fantastic but I'm curious how it would actually play out on the court. Paul is a PG that controls the ball and pushes the tempo and that's two things Roy doesn't like right there.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

I'm sort of intrigued by Mo Williams, despite myself. Especially if we can get Varejao as well (I know, broken record). But I think they're more interested in proving they can be respectable post-Lebron than rebuilding right now. But if they'd do a Miller/Joel for Mo/Varejao trade, now THAT I'd be intrigued by.

But that said, Miller is a much better ball-player than Williams. He just doesn't work that well with Roy. But he might be better for everybody else on the roster than Williams.

    Re: Carmelo Trades

Paul doesn't really push the tempo that much at all. Last year the Hornets were 15th in pace but Paul missed half the season and Jeff Bower took over for Byron Scott, the two years before that when Paul played 78 and 80 games they were 28th and 26th in pace respectively so under coach Scott Paul was almost as slow paced as us.
