I figured I would start a new thread to evaluate exactly what each team would reasonably give up to land Chris Paul. Here is my guess as to what NO would want

    1. Cap relief (taking back Okafor, Posey or Peja)

    2. Draft picks/rights to international players

    3. Young talent that could bolster NO's roster

    4. $3MM in unmarked $20 bills in George Shinn's pocket.

Chris Paul wants to be traded to one of these four teams, but perhaps another team I'm not thinking of could make an equally strong offer. For example, I wonder if OKC could offer Green, Westbrook, some of their cap space and some leftover draft picks?

Anyway, let's try to brainstorm and see what the best reasonable offers for Paul could be. That way, we can evaluate our competition. Time to turn on the ESPN Trade Machine!

It's what I think it would take to get Paul...

Obviously, I'd go for a Przybilla, Miller, Rudy, Bayless trade:rolleyes:, but do you think NO even considers it?

For the other teams on Chris Paul's list:

    Orlando:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2839nne

That's seriously just about the best they can do, in my opinion. One decent prospect and one ending contract. Plus I guess Orlando could add the rights to Fran Vasquez and a couple picks. Meh.

    For Dallas:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2a8gfkb

Doesn't really make sense, since Dallas' best prospect plays the same position as New Orleans' best prospect. Plus it's not a ton of ending contracts, so it doesn't exactly save a lot of money for New Orleans.

    New York:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=29xoabq

the Knicks have so many contracts that can't be traded right now, it's impossible to make a deal that includes Okafor's contract, which I'm sure New Orleans would prefer to get rid of. But Gallinari and Wilson Chandler are good prospects.

    --

I really think we have much more to offer.

    Simple.

According to reports, they denied that before the draft. What's changed? And don't say "Paul asked for a trade", he really has little leverage. If the Hornets know they are losing him anyways, they're going to take the best package, and I think there are better packages out there.

Re: TIme to work the Trade Machine!

Yes they can because they are under the cap. I think it also lets them trade players they just got, like Randolph or Turiaf.

    For example: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=25ous8h

EDIT: Geez, Azubuike had a 19.8 PER? WTF.

    Paul asking for a trade.

And I'm not sure there are better offers out there, that combine a high upside young player with salary relief. I also think Bayless is an extremely promising prospect and, for New Orleans, they don't need him to be a point guard at all.

Ah, my bad. I saw the red circle with the cross through it and thought they weren't eligible to be traded. Thanks for the correction.
