Mets' Jason Bay goes to NY for tests

    New York Mets left fielder Jason Bay flew to New York Wednesday morning to be examined by team doctors.

    ay strained a left rib-cage muscle before Tuesday's game, which would have been his first since lower-back stiffness prevented him from playing during the weekend.

    Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said a decision about whether to place Bay on the disabled list might be made shortly before Thursday's 11 a.m. ET deadline to set rosters. However, manager Terry Collins appeared inclined to treat Bay cautiously and have him open the season on the DL.
