I've changed my opinion; the Blazers shouldn't bring Meyers back at any price. I used to think he'd be a good option as a Matt Bonner style role player. But now I believe some of you are right; he's Andrea Bargnani without the handles. Meyers I wish the best to you as a person, I like your humble upbringing story, and I think you're a great guy. I don't want to see you play for my favorite basketball team ever again. If you agree he needs to go this thread is for you.
You're comfortable paying him 10+ million per year? Because some dumb team is going to offer him 10+ million per year.
I'd rather pay someone else 10 million a year but he's a decent 4th big. He's an NBA player, to the chagrin of many.
I guess we will see his value on the open market. I doubt the Blazers bring him back at 10+MM though.
Don't care really. If we can replace him witha better player fjne. But if we can get him cheap then he has a value. Focus on what a player can do not what they can't. Even if it isn't much.
He's looking for something in the $15m-17m/per range. I think Neil will gladly let him walk. He's essentially Andrea Bargnani. Maybe he can flip a switch - bigs take a lot longer to develop - but MyLo wants a max deal. No. Thanks.
Meyers struggled early, but his 3FG% improved every month of the year: Oct: 3FG% = .154 Nov: 3FG% = .280 Dec: 3FG% = .360 Jan: 3FG% = .414 Feb: 3FG% = .452 Mar: 3FG% = .462 For calendar year 2016, he's our best 3-point shooter (.435 3FG% - C.J. is a close second at .429). He also averaged 12.2 reb/36 in March. If we get that Meyers, I'd be happy with bringing him back. That's very good production for a bench player. I also think we'll miss his ability to space the floor in the playoffs. Having him out at the 3-point line draws an opposing big man out of the paint, which makes it easier for Dame and C.J. to get to the rim. BNM
If I'm Olshey I'm definitely setting a $ limit when it comes to Leonard. Some loser team out there will probably go over it so I'm not expecting him back either. Harkless, Crabbe, and even Henderson are ahead of him on the priority list.
Link please. Actually, he's not. I know that's the Meyers haters' favorite comparison, but it's not accurate. Bargnani's supposed strength was his range for a 7-footer, but Meyers is a better 3-point shooter (.385 career 3FG% vs. ,354 for Bargnani). Bargnani is one of the worst rebounding 7-footers in the history of the game, second only to Brad Sellers. His career TRB% is 9.5, his career best is 10.4 and he's had 7 seasons of TRB% <10.0. Meyers Leonard has a career TRB% = 13.7 and his career low is 12.3 his rookie year. Meyer's may not be anyone's ideal big man, but he's a decent back up big man and way better than Andrea Bargnani. BNM
Yep, if the money makes sense, resign him, If not let him walk. The injury hurt his value. So, maybe others will shy away from giving him a ridiculous offer, but he is young and big and can shoot the three, so someone may get crazy and overpay him. If so, wish him well and SPAM elsewhere. BNM
all depends on the $$. He is young and has improved in areas of his game, yes he is about as frustrating to watch as Batum was but we don't have a championship window we are chasing and quiet frankly we are probably 1 to 2 years away at least from being a top seed in the west so paying a young player who has shown potential isn't a bad thing. This league is littered with players who are young and were seen as overpaid then played into their contract or above it. Paying Leonard somewhere between 8-12 a year isn't going to kill us when the cap is 90+ for the foreseeable future especially if we can get him on a contract with a team option at the end of it.
the thought of paying meyers 8-10m a year for the level of frustration and lack of everything he brings makes me sick to my stomach. let. him walk. although, can't wait to see what he gets offered. dream scenario is LA signs him to a max deal. he isnt gonna bang, he isnt gonna be a force on D, he isnt going to protect the rim and crash the boards, and he isnt gonna ever start again. at least never ahead of Plum or Davis. waste o time.
This is how I feel... and I was one of his ardent detractors... but he does have some value... but not $10m/year value.
Furthermore he's definitely tradeable at that rate. Like it or not this has become a stretch big league. So No, Meyers "must-int" go. IMO, we haven't seen his ceiling. Slow learner as it were, but the kid works hard. If he could get that baby hook down I'd love to keep him around.
Its all about the money, but he does bring a couple of things to the table we do need and don't have currently. Though they are not glaring needs.
