"Heat forward James Jones defeated the Celtics' Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in the three-point competition on Saturday at Staples Center. A graduate of the University of Miami, Jones is the fourth Heat player to win the competition, joining Glen Rice, Jason Kapono and Daequan Cook. Jones scored 20 points in the finals, making 4 of 5 shots on every rack. Pierce scored 18 in the final while Allen had 15 points. "We've had our struggles with the Celtics in the past but the Heat came out on top [Saturday]," Jones said. Jones practiced little for the competition before arriving in Los Angeles. The Heat had a four-game road trip before the All-Star break. Jones also has been suffering from a minor hip injury after taking a charge against Celtics center Kendrick Perkins last Sunday. Jones advanced to the finals by scoring 15 points in the first round. Allen scored 20 in the first round while Pierce had 12, making his final three shots to advance. "It was an easy transition for me and I think playing and shooting against some of the best competition in the league kind of brought the best out of me," Jones said. Jones ruptured a tendon in his right wrist in 2008. The injury required surgery and nearly ended his career. He said Saturday's victory in the three-point competition provided personal redemption."
