Mickey Rourke has hinted his Oscar-nominated character in The Wrestler might be getting some real ring time after the fighting world embraced his portrayal of Randy 'The Ram' Robinson. The actor reveals he has been talking with Wwe boss Vince McMahon and his top fighters, and there could be a little real wrestling in his future. He says, "I think I'm gonna do WrestleMania in Houston, and (wrestler) Chris Jericho, you better get in shape because I'm coming after your ass."
What's horrible about this entire ordeal, is Rourke told somebody he would wrestle this match, I can't believe Vince would build a huge Wrestlemania storyline just based off of chance. Rourke called out Jericho on TV and everything. Then, he allowed Chris to come on Larry King in character and berate him. All this, only for Rourke to ultimately decide that being associated with the WWE in any way is bad for his acting career (just like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson did) and thus back out. Now what we have is a Jericho vs. Three old dudes who will look ridiculous and flabby in wrestling attire match, AT WRESTLEMANIA?? Can't we find something better, and save the horrible, no-draw matches for Backlash? I've got a couple ideas on how to save this storyline, and no, neither of them involve Jerry Lawler. Idea number 1: Have the 4 Legends elect an active WWE wrestler to represent them vs. Jericho, and have them (Steamboat, Snuka, Piper, and Flair) in his corner. Have that man, be Dave Batista. That way, no buildup (speaking in terms of a storyline) is needed to get Batista involved, and can you imagine the pop in the WM arena? The crowd will come absolutely unglued for The Animal's return. Idea number 2: Throw a bunch of money at Stone Cold Steve Austin, about the same number you would've paid Mickey Rourke, to return at WM25 and wrestle his last match. Sure, I could think of better opponents for him in his last match... Undertaker and Triple H have had some of my personal favorite matches with Austin, but what about the stage? What better way to go out than a win at Wrestlemania? I think if Vince hit the right number, Steve would lace 'em up one more time, and it'd be a hell of alot better than the current Legends scenario.
