He's bigger, stronger and more versatile, with career-highs in points (24.5) and rebounds (13.9) and moving into the top 10 in blocks (2.26) while still averaging 5.1 assists. And, oh yeah, the Timberwolves are better than ever. Also under consideration are Tim Duncan (San Antonio) and Jermaine O'Neal (Indiana).

Least valuable player: Vin Baker, Boston Celtics. It's going to be tough to dislodge Baker, considering he continues to get paid the maximum and was suspended for a second time by the Celtics for breaking his alcohol rehabilitation agreement. Besides, he isn't very productive when he does play. At least he's sincere when he shows no contrition.

Purehoops might like that, knowing that midway through the season KG is fav. for MVP....I agree with with most of them, except the Worst Coach of the Year, should be ATL not Frank Johnson.

Worst Exec is right, Biggest bust is right. Most dissappointing Drew Gooden though? He's not that dissappointing. I expected more, but for him coming off the bench, he's not that dissappointing, very inconsistent though.

KG deserves the MVP right now definetely. Even more than TD.

Gooden isnt the biggest disappointment surely.

With the additions of Carmelo Anthony, Andre Miller, Earl Boykins and Voshon Lenard, the Nuggets have gone from the bottom of the Western Conference to the middle of the playoff hunt. The bigger question is, can they stay there?</div>Not just Melo.

KG deserves the MVP award without a doubt. Second would probably be Jermaine O'Neal, and Peja would come in 3rd.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Defensive player of the year: Ben Wallace, Detroit Pistons. You hate to vote for the same guy every year, but Big Ben is so dominant in the interior every year at maybe 6-feet-8 -- blocking shots, rebounding and challenging the best big men. He sets the tone for the Pistons. Also, Ron Artest (Indiana), Doug Christie (Sacramento), Theo Ratliff (Atlanta) and Andrei Kirilenko (Utah). </div>
I like Big Ben, but I think Artest has been the best defensive player this year. Just considering the people he plays, he totally shuts them down. He is always a threat to steal the ball and he plays a very complete game.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rookie of the year: LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers. It's a tough call between James and Denver's Carmelo Anthony, particularly considering how well the Nuggets are playing. But James has matched, even exceeded, expectations without a lot of help. His size, strength and multitude of skills at the age of 19 have never been seen before. Anthony, too, is special, as have been Chris Bosh (Toronto) and Dwyane Wade (Miami). In a great rookie class, also keep an eye on Kirk Hinrich (Chicago), T.J. Ford (Milwaukee), Chris Kaman (Los Angeles Clippers) and Jarvis Hayes (Washington). </div>
Well, this is just tremendously surprising! [IMG] Sure, it was a tough call...as if any one else even stands a chance against this guy.

I agree, best all around defensive game in the L, on the permiter, post (against gaurds) ect ect.

Can't argue with the MVP pick. [IMG]

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Best sixth man: Bobby Jackson, Sacramento Kings. He is a sixth starter if ever there was one. Jackson will play either guard spot, score, pass and, most important, play dogged defense. Also strong candidates are Al Harrington and Antawn Jamison (Dallas).</div>

I'm kinda surprised that Boykins wasn't even considered as a candidate.

BTW, polls at nba.com showed that 54% of voters voted for KG to be the MVP.

Boykins would've been my choice too. No doubt about the MVP especially when the Timberwolves go past the second round and beyond. What really stumps me is most improved player....Redd or Randolph. It certainly would be Cassell if he was included, the fact that he's used so well to his full ability.

    Kevin Garnett-MVP? Yes
Kevin Garnett-best player in the NBA? I will wait til the end of the playoffs to give that answer

eginobili20,please explain to me why the Pistons are a surprise?

Ben Wallace will win defensive player of the year award again, still crazy on the boards, blocks and steals.Ron Artest is a great defender but they don't hand this award out to guards.

Speaking of rebounding, blocks and steals... has the NBA given the MVP and D Player of the year to the same player.

Consider this... Garnett is the L leader in rebounds (13.9), more importantly (from a defensive standpoint) he leads the L in D-rebounds at 10.7, more than a full rebound ahead of 2nd place (Tim Duncan) and 2 ahead of Ben Wallace. Also, Garnett has really improved his blocks bringing them from 1.75 to 2.25 and ranks 8th in blocks. The man is the center of the zone the T'Wolves play, playing the top of the key making it extremely hard for the gaurds to pass the ball and shot. His help defense takes back seat to very few, and he plays generally the #1 big men on the other team (considering wieght is about equal).

However, with all that said, he is still my 3rd choice for D-Player of the year after Ron Artest and Ben Wallace.

yea, i cant believe KG never even gets mention for D player of the year. hes got quick hands too, id like to see Ben Wallace not just guard but steal the ball from a point guard. but Ron and Ben are still prolly better D players but KG deserves consideration!

Wallace sure got whiped by J.O'Neal last week in every aspect of the game.

Artest has been the man clearly, even if he has not been able to even contain James in 3 games this season.

Which brings me to James. This is not November people where they player pretty much at the same level. The last 2 months have not even been close. Melo's FG% has dropped and dropped as his shot selection has been terrible. He has stretches of games where he goes 8-35, thats really helping your team. People are still blind in thinking that these 2 teams are the same as last year and they are thinking that just James and Melo were added. This is not the case people, Denver added proven NBA veteran winners to their club while the Cavs have been shaking up their roster and weeding out the bad apples (Davis, Miles)

I am defending the Nuggets here like Crossover and allnet have all year with me, this is NOT the Melo show. Barry, Lenard, Camby, Boykins, Miller, Nene, all of them have had big games and have helped lead this team to wins. That is the joy of the Nuggets, you don't know who is going to beat you on any given night.

Anthony has not been playing at the same level as James, it is not even close. James scores more and shoots a higher FG%. James is dishing out over 6 assists a game while Melo has been floating around the 2.5-3 mark (not sure why I am bringing that up because no one cares about assists)

The people who know better know I am not being a homer here, I just wish more would open their eyes.

Don't hate the guy just because you are sick of hearing about him, because that is the most common case of the hater.
