AP Find some space between the baseball playoffs and those college football rivalries. College basketball is officially back at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, or a little earlier if you want. With new NCAA rules allowing those staging Midnight Madness to start three hours earlier in prime time for the fans' sake, college basketball practice really gets under way Friday night with plenty of fanfare. Kentucky's Big Blue Madness will be the biggest show of the night with a record 23,000 tickets distributed for the event moved this year to Rupp Arena. How big a deal is the start of practice at Kentucky? The first 20,000 tickets were grabbed in 35 minutes. Wildcats fans will break the record of the 21,700 who were in the Smith Center in 2003 when Roy Williams had his first practice at North Carolina. The record won't last long, however. Texas A&M is holding Maroon Madness in conjunction with its traditional Midnight Yell Practice, a tradition before home football games. A court and baskets will be set up on one of the sidelines at Kyle Field, and a crowd between 25,000 and 30,000 is expected to see the Aggies in a real Midnight Madness. ``It should be a very unique experience, and it should be a lot of fun for everybody,'' Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie said. ``We talked about doing it last year but we didn't have a home football game to match it up with.'' Yea collge b ball is alomist here.My sister was supposed to go to the Maryland one tonight with her friends.
I'm pumped up, I'm going to the Gators Midnight Madness in like half an hour. I hope everyone has fun and good luck on the season.
It's on ESPN U. How ridiculous is ESPN U? I've got ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN Classic, ESPN News, and ESPN Full Court, yet I'm still one ESPN channel short of getting the program I want to watch? They're making new PPV basketball channels just so poker, NASCAR, pool, and the spelling be to get more time.
Kentucky's madness was pretty good. Ramel Bradley, Shagari Alleyne, and Joe Crawford performed as if they were legendary rap group Run-DMC, and Bradley and Afton Perry crooned "Smooth Operator." Brandon Stockton dressed as Mel Gibson's character in 'Braveheart' speaking to a group of students and players. It we was definitely some pretty good stuff if you ask me. Now for the player- Patrick Sparks really bulked up during the offseason. He was nailing three's in Kentucky 3 point contest, too. JUCO transfer Rekalin Sims is going to be a solid player in the paint, and the same can be said for Sheray Thomas and Bobby Perry. Shag Alleyne looks like he bulked up a little as well. I can't wait to get this season going!
MIDNIGHT MADNESS...Grateful Red Style!!! Oh man that was pimp!!! The Badgers put on an awesome show! DeAron Williams, if I haven't said it already, is a freak! The guy made Alando Tucker look like Shawn Bradley in the dunk contest. He's gonna be fun to watch this year! I cannot wait for college hoops to start!!!
I didn't get to see Michigan State's midnight madness, because it wasn't no TV where I was (as stated above), but I had some friends who went, and apparently Marquise Gray looked really nice. He has been the one question mark about our team in the preseason, so that news really made me happy. Apparently he was the best out of the bunch. It also sounds like the young guys on Michigan State impressed more than the older guys. This is great news because the one thing that all the "experts" have criticized Michigan State for in the preseason is a lack of depth, but if the guys like Gray, Ibok, and Joseph turn out to be any good, then we'll be deep enough.
