Mike Comrie waiting for hip to heal

    Veteran NHL center Mike Comrie says his career is on hold until he recovers fully from hip surgery.

    Comrie, who was with the Pittsburgh Penguins on a one-year contract in 2010-11 and missed much of the season with a hip injury, said he began his initial rehab from surgery too early, according to a statement issued Monday. It was the second such surgery of his career.

    "In wanting to return to play after surgery, I pushed myself too early and that has not helped my recovery," he said. "I will return to the NHL when I am healthy and able to play at the level I have come to expect of myself."
