Apparently the prime minister is pro Isis and the military is pro secularism/the West?

i was thinking the same thing, the government was largely secular until recently. didnt know about the military leanings, but it makes sense.

President Erdoğan is a glamorous shithead who supports ISIS. I don't know much about the PM.

I don't want to visit Turkey so American troops should stay out of there.

would that be surprising in the least? i would think in this case you would actually support such an operation.

It wouldn't. If I knew more about it, I'd probably root for the coup, but that doesn't mean that I would want rogue CIA agents taking it upon themselves to instigate it.

Now that I think of it, I probably should have said, "Trump-inspired rogue CIA agents," lol...

Well... at least it's good to know that the Turkish people can sit back with a nice big glass of Raki and wait it out. Oh! That's right.... they've pretty much banned the sale of it due to religious law.

Yeah..... I think I might know why the military are favoring a coup! :beatinto:

Is this the first NATO country to have a military coup?

Is it that surprising?! Erdogan was hated by pretty much EVERYBODY in Turkey. And the military has been a shadow government in that country since Kemah Ataturk founded it. It also wouldn't surprise me if certain parties with political or business connections to Russia are behind it. Turkey playing military footsies with Russia was hazardous considering the sanctions Putin could drop on them.

We are fighting war by proxy between the Russians and it is moving to Europe. It will only get worse in the upcoming years as Putin increases funds to political parties in these countries. He's the ultimate "gallow bird" as we Germans say. Hilary, I hope you've got a big swinging pair.

Well I hope to God she does. She's going up against a guy who idolizes Stalin and probably thinks Lavrentria Beria should have won the Novel Peace Prize.
