I had the most random phone calls over the weekend from Military recruits. They had the nerve to call my cell phone to tell me about all the wonderful benefits of joining and defending my country. I have no idea how they got my information, but I was pissed that it's gotten to a point where the military is soliciting recruits over the phone.

I asked the recruiter if they supported the war. "She said absolutely, we need to protect our soil." So I asked, so why aren't you out on the frontlines fighting, instead of wasting my time calling me on a private number on the weekend?

Her genius remark was, "So I guess you're not interested, right sir...I will remove your name from the list."

"Yes please do!" - my response.

    This took place Saturday.

Sunday afternoon I get another call from these booger eaters. This recruit was even more prepared to sell me on the idea of joining the reserves. He ran off a list of people I went to highschool with who went on to join the reserves and armed forces.

I really wanted to put him in his place, but I just told him to remove my name from the list and do it for real this time.

So I'm curious has anyone else been getting these type of calls?

Well what my school did is that if you submit a letter to the office at the beginning of the year they take you off the list because one thing I definately don't want to do is be in the milatary. I know it sounds rude but I just don't want to do and I never will.

I used to get them. I told him I'd rather fight for a country like Lebanon, just to get his reaction. Called me a horrible citizen, hung up, and haven't been called since.

I don't think Canada has an aggressive program for recruiting soldiers. Or if they do, I've never been contacted or had friends complain about it.

Just say "no, I'm a member of Al-Qaeda." I'm sure they'll stop calling you.

Hahahaha. Just imagine the headlines. California native arrested for terrorist links to Al-Qaeda. He is believed to be the leader of a terrorist cell referred to as JBB.

Aww man...we'll all get arrested then! Crap...it doesn't help that I'm from Pakistan...haha.

I used to get them all the time until 2 years ago. They have never called my cell phone though. It's amazing how much access they have to our "personal" information.

Aren't you glad you live in Canada? No military = no recruitment.

Canada spends like 8 bill a year, US spends like 500 bill a year. US has about 9 times the population but spends about 50 to 60 times per year.

Yea, I was exaggerating. Our armed forces are basically involved in peacekeeping missions. But, I've never had recruitment pitch given to me, if I didn't ask someone first.

I've been called a number of times at home, but the only time I got called on my cell I bitched the guy out like I probably shouldn't have, ranting about the war and how pathetic it was that they were resorting to calling people on private numbers, all that jazz. Haven't gotten a call since then, though [IMG]

They'd stop calling alright......they're going to be on your front door within the next 24 hours.

It's sad now days someone looks at a guy from the Middle East and just assumes he's a terrorist.

I don't want to go to the military, why go get killed for no reason? I'm sure they have enough kids that have flunked out of school, why waste my life? Sure it's for my country, but they'd just send me out on the front line, selling you the idea your going to die for your country but your really going to die instead of them. I stay away from all military stuff @ high school, only thing I did was steal pencils & pens from their booth on Career day.

I am not trying to be racist or anything, but mostly black kids call me terrorists. If they are talking about my race, and calling me terrorists, then how is it different for us to call them the "n" word? Yea it hurts them because slavery has went on for a lot of years, but were muslims the reason for slavery. It was whites as far as I know. So why take action against us and make fun of our race when our race never did anything to yours? Also, if one word can hurt you then why can't another word hurt us? Why are us pakistanis being involved in this? Why call us terrorists and then be all sensitive to being called a name? Why say something to someone for no particular reason and not expext to be said something back at? I hope no one feels me being racist or anything, but that's what I feel towards this.
