Wang gets hurt running the bases and this is his response: "My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century," Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. "They need to grow up and join the 21st century. "Am I (mad) about it? Yes," Steinbrenner added. "I've got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He's going to be out. I don't like that, and it's about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s." I now quote from the official rules of baseball: 1.01 Baseball is a game between two teams of NINE players each, under direction of a manager, played on an enclosed field in accordance with these rules, under jurisdiction of one or more umpires. Thats the 1st rule from MLBs 2008 Rule Book....maybe they should make onwers take tests before they are allowed to speak....
Just wondering, how come NL teams require the pitcher to bat, but AL teams don't? Why don't they just pick one or the other and keep everything the same?
I saw tht and starting laughing, he just needs to shut up and worry about what he is going to do to improve that team missing 3 starting pitchers and Joba Chamberlain making his 3rd or 4th start. He talks even more than his father.
In the 70s the AL adopted the DH rule, which means the AL teams dont play baseball as its written in the rulebook....the NL never did....I would like to see the DH done away with, but that wont happen because DHs make a ton of money and the players union wont let it happen....
Personally, I'm a fan of the DH but don't really care either way. I do see Stein's point though, because his pitchers aren't exactly accustomed to running the basepaths.
